Store Scones

They can be a pain to store properly. If you put them in the refrigerator, they will get really soggy and won't taste good when you cook them again. The doughy nature of the scones is due to the fact that they can't escape the humidity. If you want to counteract this, you can put the scones on the counter with a paper towel under them. After they have cooled, you can freeze them for up to three months in an airtight container.

Step 1: Wait for your scones to cool down.

To remove your scones from the oven, use an oven mitt.Give the scones time to cool.If you put your scones in a container when they are still warm, they will get soggy and gross.

Step 2: A food-storage container is needed.

Any container that holds food will work.If the plastic can be properly sealed, it should be fine.If you store your scones in a container without a lid, they will get old and dry out.

Step 3: To fit the container, put a paper towel over it.

If you want the paper towel to fit in the base of the container, fold it over. The paper towel should be at the bottom of the container. If you are storing the scones in a larger container, use 2 paper towels. If you have to, you can use a thick napkin.

Step 4: The paper towel should be placed on top of your scones.

Transfer your scones to your container once they have cooled off.Pick each scone up and put it into the container, stacking them as necessary without pressing down to compress or smash them.Unless you have a lot of scones, they should be fine laying on top of each other.

Step 5: There is a second towel on top of the scones.

Once your scones are in the container, lay a single paper towel on top of them. The paper towels absorb the water in the scones and keep them from getting soggy. If you don't have paper towels, you can use a napkin.

Step 6: You can store your scones for 3-4 days at room temperature.

Put the lid on the container.Make sure the container is closed by running your hands around the rim.You can store your scones in the pantry for 3-4 days. You may be able to store them a little longer, but they will start to get old after a few days.If you are going to heat the scones, make sure to put a small amount of water on top of them with your fingers.

Step 7: If you want your scones to cool, put them on a baking sheet.

Pull the scones out of the oven by using an oven mitt.Wait 30-40 minutes for the scones to reach room temperature after transferring them to a clean baking sheet. You can use a large bowl or plate if the baking sheet won't fit in the freezer.

Step 8: The scones need to be frozen for 1 hour.

Place the baking sheet in the freezer once the scones have reached room temperature. You should wait at least 1 hour for the baked scones to freeze. This gives the excess water time to evaporate so that it doesn't get stuck in the storage container.

Step 9: The scones will be put in an airtight container.

Any container that can hold food will work. The plastic, glass, or ceramic should work well with the scones. When placing your frozen scones in the container, layer them on top of one another and close the lid.

Step 10: You can freeze your scones for up to three months.

Place your food in the freezer. You can keep them there for up to 3 months. When you want to rewarm the scones, take them out and put them in the oven or microwave. When you bake unbaked scones, add at least 3 minutes to the cooking time.
