Growing in a solution instead of in soil is called growing Hydroponically. You can harvest strawberries all year long if you grow them in Hydroponics. You don't need a large tub or bucket to grow strawberries all year long.
Step 1: It is possible to grow strawberries with the wicking system.
The easiest way to grow plants in scuplture is using the wicking system. It's well-suited for small plants, such as strawberries.Other methods include a deep water culture system, a nutrient film technique system and an ebb and flow system.
Step 2: You can choose a well lit location.
A well-lit location is what you'll want for your system. The strawberries need a temperature range of 57 F to 70F.Artificial growing lights are needed if you don't have a lot of natural light.
Step 3: Pick a strawberry-related solution.
It is a good idea for beginners to buy a solution instead of making their own. This will make sure the ratios are right for the plant you intend to grow.Nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium, calcium, and magnesium are required to grow strawberries. You can find solutions at garden shops.
Step 4: There is a choice of a reservoir.
Pick a large tub or bucket. If it isn't deep enough, you will spend a lot of time refilling it.Make sure your containers fit on the top of the reservoir.
Step 5: Water and a solution are what you'll need.
The package directions tell you to mix your water with your hydroponics equipment.strawberries will not grow correctly if you use too much or too little water.
Step 6: Put the container in the right place.
All your plants can be placed in one large trough or individual pots.Be sure to hang or anchor the container if it doesn't rest on the top of the reservoir.
Step 7: Put your wicks in.
The most important part of the system is the wicks.Pick something that is absorbent and resistant to rotting. You may want to experiment with different types of wicks.Fibrous rope, nylon rope and cotton rope are some of the commonly used ropes for wicks. Before using any chemicals on your plants, be sure to clean and rinse your wicks.
Step 8: You can place your wicks between the growing container.
The water needs to be delivered to containers. You will need a wicks for each pot if you use separate pots.If you use a trough, make sure enough liquid is able to reach your strawberry plants. The growing container should be placed with one end in it.
Step 9: Choose a medium that will grow.
The soil that is typically used for growing plants will be replaced by this medium. If you want strawberries, you'll want to grow them in a medium like perlite or vermiculite. If you use coconut coir or peat moss, they may absorb too much of your solution and suffocate the plant.
Step 10: Before you fill the container, make sure your growing medium is okay.
Adding your growing medium to the container should be done by soaking it in water with a balanced acidity. To make sure the medium doesn't act like a sponge, soak it for at least 30 minutes. As you need to leave room for your rootstock, fill the container only 23 full.
Step 11: Start with a plant.
It can take two to three years to grow strawberries from seed, while a month or two will produce fruit depending on the variety.A day-neutral variety is recommended for indoor growers.
Step 12: The strawberry plant needs to be removed from its container.
Shake the soil to clean it.You can lightly tap the dirt with your fingers. At this point, remove any dry, brittle, or dead leaves.
Step 13: The roots need to be cleansed.
Carefully rinse the roots. If you break too many of the root hairs, your plant won't produce as much fruit.
Step 14: Put the entire root system in the water.
For at least 10 minutes, fill a bucket with cold water and soak the strawberry plant's root system. This will make sure the strawberries' runner roots don't get dehydrated when they are replanted.
Step 15: Put your strawberry plant in a container.
Hold the crown of the plant and place the roots over the growing medium.
Step 16: The roots should be covered with medium.
To fully cover the roots of your strawberry plant, add enough growing medium. The crown of the strawberry plant needs light and air.
Step 17: The level is checked daily.
To make sure your strawberries are getting enough of the solution, you'll want to keep a close eye on the level. The solution will have a shorter path to reach the strawberries if the reservoir is kept full.If you have a low level, be sure to mix the solution according to the directions.
Step 18: It's time to flush your growing medium.
You should flush your medium once a week.Excess mineral salts will be removed from the medium that your plant has not absorbed.
Step 19: You can pollinate your strawberries.
Because there are no bees or birds in the house, you have to hand-pollinate your strawberries. The male part of the stamen is brownish in color, while the female part is yellow-greenish.If your strawberry plant doesn't produce fruit, be sure to pollinate the entire pistil.
Step 20: Take your strawberries.
After they are picked, strawberries will not continue to grow.Don't harvest until the strawberries are ripe. They will be red and firm to the touch when ripe.Carefully remove the red berries from the vine once they have grown to a desirable size. Before eating, rinse them thoroughly.
