Survive the International Baccalaureate programme.
If you're reading this, chances are you have already taken the IB programme or are thinking about taking it.You're in the right place to get some helpful tips to help you decide if this is something you want to do and to survive getting through a challenging (yet rewarding!) experience.It's a way to study.
Step 1: Gain a better understanding of the program.
If you haven't started IB yet, make sure you know what you're getting into.You can visit your school's open house.IB is not for everyone.
Step 2: You should make the most of your classes.
Take notes when you ask questions.If you don't understand something, follow it up as soon as possible.If your school provides additional help before and after school, then you should take advantage of it.
Step 3: Stay on top of things.
You should organize your notes and handouts into folders and binders.Ensure that you have everything you need.There are a couple of pencils, sharpener, pens, markers, and calculator/s.
Step 4: The IB objectives are for each subject.
They don't want to test you on anything else because of the need to standardize the curriculum.Ever.When you only have to be able to draw a generalised structure in biology, there's not much point in learning the names of all the amino acids.
Step 5: You can learn the command terms for each subject.
You will lose marks if you don't know command terms.
Step 6: Do all your homework.
If you're not careful, you could find yourself overwhelmed by the final exams, as homework assignments constitute a high percentage of your final IB grade.If you are doing higher level science or math, this applies even more.
Step 7: It's time to start your extended essay.
It should be done well, properly, and early.It's out of the way if you do it now.
Step 8: Understand the full IB.
Theory of Knowledge is something else.It's up to you to nail it.It's easy to get the core points if you work hard.You should teach yourself if your teacher doesn't teach you.There are books that are specifically designed for IB.
Step 9: You should keep up to date with your CAS.
Over a two year period, you need 50 hours of each.Try to convince your school to organize something that will help you cut these hours out.Gardeners in school can count as all three if all else fails.You need to get help in school signed off.Hand in the forms!You'll want to finish this as soon as possible, so you can concentrate on your final exams.Not all IB programs count hours, so make sure to check with your individual IB coordinators to see if you are doing your homework correctly.
Step 10: Try not to freak out.
If you work, you won't fail.You will get into college.It will all pass eventually, even though it may seem like a lot at first.Don't let stress or fear get in the way of succeeding in this program.
Step 11: There is more to life than the IB.
IB can result in social isolation and depression.For the sake of your sanity, relax and have some sort of social life.There is a decent IB forum on the internet.Talk to other IB students.Don't fall behind on your schoolwork.
Step 12: It is a good idea to give yourself a break once in a while.
Whatever you do to relax, do it.Have some time.Not all the time.
Step 13: Don't slack off for an extended period.
Sometimes the IB is hard, but do it right.It's pointless wasting years of your life goofing off, when you could be making the most of what you have, at the end of the day.
Step 14: Don't put it off.
The kings and queens of Procrastination are the IB students.It's okay if you put things off once in a while, but not so often that you end up having to write an extended essay.
Step 15: If you want to make friends in the IB early on, do it with friends.
It is difficult to survive all by yourself, as this also requires a guardian who is committed to helping you succeed IB.IB friends will help you succeed.You need to study with this group because you can support each other.If you have to, you need to ask every single question in your head and take every help you can get.
Step 16: Revise.
These exams are more than just a walk in the park.The IB is hard for most people, so prepare for it!When you pass your exams, smile and be thankful.Help the first year students.
Step 17: It's practice.
Work through as many I.B exams as you can.The questions in your textbook may be easier than the actual exam.
