Cook without stirring and make sure the candy is at least 250 degrees.You can still check the doneness if you don't have a candy thermometer.Drop a small amount of the mixture into the water.If the candy makes a ball that is still flexible, it's ready.
Step 6: Close your eyes and pay close attention.
It will take some time for the candy to get to 250 degrees, but once it does it will overcook quickly.
Step 7: The saucepan should be removed from the heat.
You want to pull it off the heat as soon as possible.
Step 8: You can add the flavoring.
Stir until they are well combined.
Step 9: The baked candy should be in the baking pan.
The candy can be cooled in the baking pan.
Step 10: Wait 15 minutes.
The taffy needs to be cool to handle.
Step 11: You should butter your hands.
The taffy will not stick to your hands if you put butter on them.
Step 12: The taffy needs to be pulled.
Use your buttered hands to pull the taffy until it looks lighter.If you fold the taffy back on itself, you can stretch it out.This will take about 15 minutes.
Step 13: The candy should be put into long ropes.
Pull the taffy into long strips when it looks lighter.
Step 14: Cut the taffy.
Use scissors to cut the taffy.Make the cutting easier by buttering the scissors.
Step 15: Wrap the taffy around.
The taffy will hold its shape if it is wrapped in a piece of paper.
