It's no secret that avocados are delicious. It can be difficult to know when to eat them. The adverse health effects of eating food that has gone bad, as well as the unpleasant taste of an overripe avocados, could make it safe to eat.You can avoid disappointment by knowing what to look for and how to store the fruit.
Step 1: The outer skin of an animal.
Theavocado is not safe to eat if there is visible mould or a rancid smell. It is likely that the avocados have gone bad because of dents and marks.
Step 2: Make sure to check the color.
Different types of avocados have different colors on their skin. The Hass is the most common variety and will change colour to very dark green or purple when ripe.Hass avocados may be past their prime if they reach a deep black colour. The bacon, Fuerte, Gwen, Pinkerton, Reed and Zutano are some of the commercially available avocados.
Step 3: You can apply gentle pressure by holding the avocados in your hand.
Don't bruise the fruit with your hands.A ripe fruit will yield with light force. It is a sign that the avocados have gone bad if there is slight pressure in them.
Step 4: The stem of theavocado is used to check for ripeness.
Some people like to push in or remove the stem to check for softness. If the stem moves quickly, it means the fruit is ripe. The colour of the flesh is revealed when the stem is removed. When judging softness, this method may be effective, but not when judging colour.More surface area is needed to see a good indication of the quality of flesh. If you are looking at the fruit to purchase, make sure you don't do this. The quality of the fruit can be compromised if the stem is removed.
Step 5: The avocados need to be cut open.
If you already own the fruit, this is the best way to find out if it has gone bad.The flesh should be green. The flesh should not be eaten if it is black or brown. If there is some small, isolated areas of brown colour in the avocados, they are okay to eat.
Step 6: It's a good time to taste the avocados.
If you've thoroughly inspected the flesh but aren't sure if it's ok, you can do a taste test.If you want to avoid brown spots, try a small amount of green flesh. It should be mild and sweet. It has gone bad if it smells or tastes bad.
Step 7: It's a good idea to avoid overripe avocados.
If you don't want to eat it immediately, store it in the fridge. An uncut, ripeavocado can last 3-4 days at room temperature or 7 days if refrigerated.
Step 8: Store the fruit to preserve freshness.
If you want to store anavocado after it has been cut, cover it tightly with plastic wrap and then store it in an air tight container for up to 3 days.Sprinkle a light layer of lemon juice on the cut flesh to retain a green colour for as long as possible. The slight acid content will help stop oxidation and prevent the flesh from turning brown. It doesn't mean that the fruit is not good.Remove the brown surface area with a spoon or other utensil. The flesh should be green.
Step 9: It's a good idea to freeze avocados to avoid waste.
If you want to prolong the life of an avocados, puree it with lemon juice and keep it in a sealed container. The puree can be kept in the freezer for up to 4 months.
