It can be difficult to put in a soft contact lens. The lens is very delicate and can be hard to spot.Take the time to perform a few tests to make sure they are put in correctly.
Step 1: You can put the contact lens on your finger.
You should touch the rounded side with your finger. If it looks like a cup on your finger, it's in the right orientation. The contact lens flips the wrong way if it looks like a dome.Put the lens on your palm if you can't keep it.
Step 2: The lens should be held at eye level.
It's important to see the lens at the correct angle. You need the contact lens to see correctly, so viewing from different angles can be tricks on your eyes. From the side, look at it.
Step 3: Look for the letter U.
The contact lens should have a rounded appearance if it is correctly oriented. It should look like a wide letter. It will look more like a V than a U when it is inside.Flares can be seen at the edges. If the lens is inside out, the edges will look stretched towards the sides. If the lens seems wider at the top, and the lines aren't straight, it's probably inside.
Step 4: The lens should be between your thumb and forefinger.
Make sure your fingers are not touching the edges or the inside of the contact lens by adjusting them. The contact lens edges need room to move.
Step 5: The lens should be squeezed gently.
Don't smash the lens. The point is not to test the integrity of the lens. When you bend it, you want to see how it shapes.
Step 6: You should study the lens.
The taco is aligned if the edges point straight upward. The lens should be reversed if they squeeze or round out like the head of a vase. The edges of a contact lens will curve towards one another if you squeeze tightly.
Step 7: You should look for laser etching.
The process of etching small numbers into the lens is even easier with the help of some lens manufacturers. The lens should be set on your forefinger. When viewing the lens from the side, look for the numbers. The lens is oriented correctly if they are right-side up.
Step 8: You should check for edge coloring.
If the lens is inverted, there will be a specific look to it.Lower your hand as you hold the lens on your finger.Look downward from there. If the edge is tinted in a blue or green color, then it is in the right position. The edges are inverted if they look like another color.
Step 9: The lens needs to be put in.
The contact lens might have to be inserted if none of the other tests show it's clear. There will be a noticeable change in feel when a contact lens is inserted inside. It will feel uncomfortable. There may be a bit of confusion because a dirty lens can cause similar symptoms.
