There is a simple way to enjoy a day at the beach with boogie boarding.Bodyboarding, also known as boogie boarding, is a form of wave riding that can be practiced as a casual recreational activity or for serious sport.Get all the necessary gear, like a leash, rashguard, fins, and wax, if you choose a boogie board based on your weight and height.Try to catch a wave by paddling out into the ocean.
Step 1: Choose a calm spot for boogie boarding.
There is a swimming beach with waves less than 61 cm high. The beach should be free of large rocks, boats, and fishing equipment. You should have permission to boogie board at the location.
Step 2: The boogie board should be suited to your height and weight.
The board should reach to within 1 in of your belly button when standing on its tail. You should be able to hold the board under your arm and against your side with no problem. If you are shorter than 5 feet and weigh less than 130 lbs, choose a bodyboard that is 40 in (101.6 cm) or less.If you are between 5 feet 1.5 m and 6 feet 1.7 m, choose a bodyboard between 40 and 43 in (101.6 and 109.2 cm) and weigh between 130 and 205 lbs (59 and 95.3 kg).If you are taller than 6 feet and weigh more than 200 lbs, choose a bodyboard that is 44 in (111.8 cm) tall.
Step 3: You should wax your board.
The board's grip is improved by adding wax to it.Surf wax can be applied to the nose, tail, and rails of the boogie board.
Step 4: There is a rashguard on.
A rashguard protects your skin from the sun and reduces irritation from your boogie board. You don't need a rashguard to boogie board.
Step 5: Put the fins on the water.
Choose fins that attach to your ankle. It's not a requirement to wear swim fins, but they will help you kick your way out into the surf and catch waves, as well as steer and control the boogie board.
Step 6: Put the boogie board leash on your wrist or arm.
If you want to avoid losing your board in the current, choose a leash for your bicep or wrist.A bicep leash is used by most boogie boarders. Before entering the water, secure the leash to your wrist or bicep.
Step 7: Get in a position.
Once you are in the water, lie down with your belly on the board. The tail of the board should be in contact with your hips. The top corners of the board are where your hands should be placed.
Step 8: The waves are breaking so kick and paddle to where they are.
It's important to keep your fins underwater. You can paddle with one hand or both hands.A bulge forms at the highest point of the wave when it is about to break.
Step 9: The wave you want to ride is up for grabs.
Not every wave is strong enough to carry you.Work your way up to larger waves by attempting smaller waves first. You'll be able to ride it farther if the wave is larger.
Step 10: Place the nose of the board on the beach.
Before the wave breaks, turn your boogie board around and face the beach.Keep your head up.
Step 11: Kick toward the beach.
The wave will break and you want to be in the same place. You can catch the wave by getting ahead of it.Keep your legs apart and your fins underwater.Scoop the water with your hands.Avoid the crest and tip-top of the wave if you want to catch it.
Step 12: You have to catch the wave.
If you have paddled the board at the right speed and in the direction of the wave, you should feel like you are on the beach. The wave will do the work for you if you don't kick or paddle. For better control, keep your elbow on the board.
Step 13: To turn left, lean left and turn right.
To turn right, apply pressure to the board and hold the left rail with your left hand.To turn left, apply pressure to the board and hold the rail with your right hand.
Step 14: Take a bottom turn.
The foundation for all other maneuvers is a good bottom turn.Keep your hands over the nose of the board as the wave catches you.To dig the edge of the body board into the wave, lean onto your left elbow.LIft the rail with your right hand.As you turn, extend your legs to keep your feet out of the water. After you start to turn, center your body weight on the board and lean forward to gain speed.
Step 15: Cut back on your activities.
A cut back is a turn back to the wave that you can do to regulate your speed. While applying pressure to the middle of your right rail, shift your weight away from the wave.Lift up the upper left corner of the board with your left hand.If you want to stop your turn, look at the inside of the wave. When you reach that spot, lean left to get back in the wave and shift your weight to the normal position.
Step 16: You can try a virtual reality headset.
Try a full rotation after you've mastered the bottom turn.It can be done on the flat section of a wave, in the white foam, off the lip of the wave or even into the air.The technique is the same wherever you try it.You can position yourself in the wave by making a bottom turn.To face the wave, turn slightly to the left. The easiest way to level your board is to slide forward on it.Throw your head to the left when you lift your legs.If you keep looking in the direction you want to spin, your shoulder will follow.Put your feet back in the water after a bottom turn to gain speed for the next maneuver.
