Your cat can travel on a network of shelves or pieces of furniture if you have a cat superhighway. While there are different ways to create a cat superhighway, they all allow the cat to travel high up along the wall and have fun doing it.By designing your project, gathering materials, and putting your materials to work, you will be able to create a cat superhighway that your cat will enjoy for years to come.
Step 1: Think about the type of highway you want to build.
You have to think about it before you start building your cat superhighway.Your project may not be a success if you don't have a comprehensive vision.Decide if you want a pathway where your kitty can jump.A path for your cat to follow. Most of your home is a highway.A highway leads from one part of your home to another.
Step 2: Where do you want your superhighway to start?
The starting location is crucial to the project. It is important that the starting location is a place where the cat spends time or passes through.Pick a place that is low to the ground. It should only be as high as your cat can jump from.Pick a part of your home that you spend a lot of time in, like the TV room, bedroom or office.
Step 3: Where do you want it to end?
The beginning and end of your cat's superhighway are equally important. You want your project to end in a place that your cat frequents. The ending point should be low to the ground like the starting point. The cat needs to be able to jump back onto it.
Step 4: Draw a superhighway.
You need to commit it to paper once you have imagined your superhighway.Without a plan, you won't know what to do with the pieces.Take a picture of the areas of your home where the superhighway will go.Indicate whether the superhighway will have bridges or not.You don't need to scale or be exact with your blueprints. It should give you an idea of where your highway will go and where you need to put the pieces. If you want to change your design, use a pencil.
Step 5: Cat climbing shelves are available for purchase.
You can buy shelving that is made for cats to climb on.The shelves are designed for cats. They are wide enough for them to walk or sleep on, and they have anchors that help them stay in the wall.Cats can climb regular shelves used for books or other purposes.Purchase wood and carpet and make your own custom shelves.
Step 6: Purchase furniture made for cats.
Pre-made pieces of cat furniture can be used in your superhighway.Your superhighway will be enriched by these pieces.Purchase cat scratching post towers. The points where your cat can get on and off the highway will be created by incorporating a few of these. You can use a cat condo. It's a good idea to have your cat hangout along the superhighway.
Step 7: Find shelving units.
Buying furniture that fits your and your cat's needs is possible.A bookshelf or other shelving unit may be able to store your own items while serving as a critical piece of your cat superhighway.Place the tall bookshelves in convenient areas. It's important that the cat can reach the bookshelves from another part of the highway.Purchase shelving units. You can use wooden shelves, wire shelves or both to serve as a piece of your cat's superhighway.
Step 8: Furniture should be included in your highway system.
If a fireplace mantle is in the path of your highway, you should include it.By including it, you will save money, time and money. It's a good idea to remove furniture or home features from your system. If you have a bookshelf along the highway, make sure you don't put anything on top of it so your cat can travel on it.You are including pieces of furniture.Small pieces of fabric can be secured to the wall behind the bookshelves. The bookshelf won't fall if the cat jumps on it.
Step 9: Put your shelves in the wall.
The shelves and other parts of the highway should be fastened to the wall. They will fall off if your cat jumps or walks on them.Studs or bookshelves are fastened to the wall.If you don't think the shelf will support your cat's weight, add extra vertical supports to the shelves. There is a 10 to 20-pound weight on the shelves.Leave the weight on the shelves for a while. This will let you know if the shelf will hold your cat's weight.
Step 10: It's appropriate to space everything.
If you want your cat to be able to walk or jump along the highway without falling, you need to make sure the pieces of your project are close together. It's a good idea to avoid spacing pieces more than 1 or 2 feet apart. There are no spaces between the pieces if you want.A continuous highway can be created from one room to another.
Step 11: The highway needs to be adjusted.
You will have to adjust the highway to make it better for your cat.The initial design of your project may not fit your cat's needs. You may have to adjust the highway several times before your cat is happy with it.Look at your cat. It's a good idea to watch your cat use the highway.Don't be obvious about it.If you notice your cat getting off the superhighway before it ends, you may need to adjust it.If you notice that your cat is getting on elsewhere, you should change it.You can move pieces closer to each other, add new pieces, or substitute problematic pieces of the highway.Your cat might not like jumping down from a high piece onto a bookshelf. The higher piece could be lowered by about a foot.
