There are a number of directives hosted by the US Department of Defense.The information assurance workforce improvement program describes the expectations of the DoD in terms of required training, certification and management.

Those who have privileged access to the Department of Defense systems are the focus of the directive.Contractors and consultants as well as military personnel who perform information assurance roles and functions are included in the directive.According to the directive, personnel affected by DoD 8570 have to be trained and certified against specific skills.The protection of vital information that is in the nation's interests are the types of roles that the Department of Defense describes.

It will eventually be replaced by DoD 8140.The manual for DoD 8140 is yet to be published.The key directive for the information assurance workforce at the Department of Defense is DoD 8570, and it will remain so until a time when the directive is documented.

The Department of Defense is an organization with a hierarchy.IA at the DoD is called the Information Assurance Workforce, Workforce Improvement Program.Information Assurance Technical (IAT) is one of two categories within this workforce umbrella.

The grade of the individual working in that area is not reflected in the category levels.The sublevels that represent the individual's grade are within each level.These are the levels of achievement.

If you want to work within these levels, you need to be certified to the correct level for the function you perform.If you want to work at a Level 2, you need to have mastered Level 1.

Privileged access to one or more category levels is available to workers in an IAT role.They have the right level of certification for the position.The individual needs to have at least one of the following.

The functions required for an IA position must be reflected in the certification.An employee has six months from the first assignment of a position or from their start date for new employees to achieve the required DOD 8570 certification.

If the employee is in a combat situation, they need to be fully trained and certified.There are certain circumstances that can warrant a time-limited waiver.Privileged access is a requirement for working in an IA role if an individual fails to attain certification within six months.

You need to think about the requirements of the level/function you will be working on when you get DoD IAT certification.

You need to communicate with your Information Assurance Manager in order to prepare for your training and certification exam.

Training courses can be taken to prepare for the exam.The manual doesn't recommend any training organization.Training organizations are usually suggested by certification bodies.

You can register at the portal after you have passed your exam.

You can sit for a certification without taking a training course.The Department of Defense strongly encourages exam preparation training, but you have to prove you are prepared to take the exam.You may have to take a pre-exam to prove you are certified.They may not release the voucher needed to progress your certification process unless you can satisfy yourIAM of your readiness to pass the certification.

If you fail, you can take the exams again.Over the number of times you will be funded to take retests, there may be a caveat.You may have to pay for subsequent retests.
