Esther took action when she was seven years old because of her shyness. After my mother took me to buy a pair of tights, a leotard and ballet slippers, I found myself in ballet class. My mother and I had a deal that I would stick with it for a year and if I didn't like it, I could quit. She fell in love with ballet.

He was a natural. Her ballet teacher told her mother that she had finally gotten her ballerina after 35 years of searching. She was young. The only Mexican American in her class, Cisneros was very dedicated, juggling ballet lessons with an active school schedule that included playing on the softball, volleyball, basketball, and track teams. At the age of 13, she had to choose between ballet and sports. She said she had to try to be a ballerina after discussing the situation with her parents. The fire inside my heart was burning with the desire to dance.Cisneros pursued ballet with conviction after the decision was made. She left school early because she skipped lunch. She took the hour and a half ride to the ballet studio. She returned home to finish her homework and sleep after a few hours of rehearsal. This went on for five days a week. She spent a lot of time rehearsing on the weekends. She trained at the San Francisco Ballet School and the School of American Ballet.

At the age of 15, Cisneros was offered an apprenticeship at the San Francisco Ballet. She arrived in San Francisco on February 1, 1976, after finishing high school. She was on stage two days later.Cisneros was asked to help out a dancer who had been injured. She practiced the dance for five hours. She wrote on Evelyn Cisneros's Web Page, "I was terrified, but I knew that this was my big opportunity and that if I proved that I was capable of learning a ballet and performing it well in that short amount of time, I could make myself invaluable to the company."

The San Francisco Ballet's artistic director took the shy Cisneros under his wing and became her mentor.Cisneros told the San Francisco Chronicle in 1999 that Michael made him what he is.He created many roles for me.I was given the chance to become a dancer.I loved him.The two people were very fond of each other. In the San Francisco Chronicle article, Smuin said, "I can tell you honestly that there were times when I was choreographing when it was Evelyn who showed me, in the way she could move, the direction a dance could take."She was a wonderful actress and a dramatic dancer.Smuin's highly theatrical choreography was perfect for her.The two flourished side by side.

The company's favorite dancer was Cisneros. The audience is what Cisneros has transported to many a ballet dreamworld with her dancing, her sheer physical beauty, and her ability to project emotions across the footlights. The audience fell in love with her.Cisneros was loved by a lot of people.Anthony Randazzo, a regular dance partner of Cisneros, told Dance Magazine that she is generous. She's inclusive.

She looks into my eyes as she dances with me.She doesn't say, "This is the way I see it, and you have to follow my lead."She makes me a part of the dance.Stephen Legate, the principal dancer of the San Francisco Ballet, said in the same article, "She is always there for the audience."She has a wonderful heart and it can't help but come through.

Hispanic girls have been directed that warmth and kindness by Cisneros throughout her career. She has volunteered at two organizations.A volunteer told the San Francisco Chronicle that she could see how she engages the girls. She cares about her community more than doing her duty. When she joined the board of Project Open Hand, she reached out to Hispanics who were suffering from AIDS.Before Cisneros came on board, the organization had trouble gaining access to the Hispanic community because they were delivering meals to people with AIDS.The former director of Project Open Hand told the San Francisco Chronicle that when she delivered food, it went beyond nutrition. She brought joy to people's faces.

Smuin was replaced as artistic director of the San Francisco Ballet in 1985 and several dancers were fired due to the changes that took place.New director Helgi Tomasson faced an uphill battle to keep the company going as newspapers filled with stories about backstage squabbles.Cisneros remained unaffected despite mourning the loss of Smuin. She told the San Francisco Chronicle that one shouldn't have to take sides. She said she had tried to stay true to the dance. Many believe that Tomasson snubbed her by cutting her from opening nights and not casting her in roles that had been created for her, butCisneros stayed true to the dance and the new director.Everyone else who knew her was enchanted as well.He told the San Francisco Chronicle that Evelyn has a beautiful smile. You can't help but notice her right away. She has a gift that not many people have. She had several roles created for her by Tomasson.

Cisneros began to embrace modern dance under the second director of her career.San Francisco Ballet has distinguished itself in recent years as a ballet company that can do modern without looking like a Ballet company doing modern, and Cisneros is its most distinguished classical ballerina, according to Dance Magazine. The contemporary work has been good for her.It shows a side of her that is strong and musical.Lambarena was created in 1995 by Val Caniparoli, a mix of African dance and classical ballet. It became one of her favorites to perform. She has performed at the Jacob's Pillow modern dance festival and worked with Mark Morris.

At the age of 40, Cisneros retired from the San Francisco Ballet. She told the San Francisco Chronicle that she wants to have a family."It's the end of an era," said Charles McNeal of the San Francisco Ballet.I don't know of any other artist like her.She has been an icon of this institution. The talent and beauty you see is who she is.The mayor of San Francisco introduced her at her final performance. Many tears were shed as she was honored with standing ovations. The dance critic for the San Francisco Chronicle wrote about her final performance. She seemed to be telling us that we would be fine, even though she was dancing away from us.

Cisneros and Legate had a boy after her retirement. She began teaching. She told the San Francisco Chronicle that she was interested in working with children."It's something that I enjoy doing, and I want to give back to the community for getting behind me and supporting my work and my time here."She felt a commitment to ballet. She told the Albuquerque Journal that her greatest fear is that ballet will disappear in the country.Artists who have devoted their lives to perfect the art form want to pass it on to the next generation. In 2002 Cisneros became the ballet education coordinator for the San Francisco Ballet. She wrote a ballet help column for Dance Magazine. At the age of 50, ballet great Mikhail Baryshnikov began a brilliant career in modern dance. One thing is certain, Cisneros has enjoyed her career. She told the San Francisco Chronicle that she had a great time.I have had a lot of joy because I've been able to do so much more than I ever imagined. The joy I have tried to share with the audience is what I hope people leave with.
