If you hit a curb or parking too close to it, you may need to replace a hubcap. If you misplace a hubcap, you'll need to replace it.If you bought your car at a dealership, you may be able to find a replacement hub cap at the store.
Step 1: Pull up the e-brake and park the car.
You're going to be by the wheels, so make sure they don't roll!
Step 2: To loosen a lug nut, turn it clockwise with a wrench.
The screws holding the tire onto the car are hexagonal. If the nuts are tight, this may take some effort. You can remove them by hand once loose. You can get them off if you apply pressure to the wrench with your foot.A crowbar with a circular hole is what a lug wrench looks like.If you don't have one, make sure you put it in the trunk. They need to change a tire as well.
Step 3: Keep the two nuts on opposite sides of the tire, if you take three of them off the hubcap.
You don't want the whole wheel to come off if you hold the wheel and hubcap on.Put the nuts in a safe place so you don't lose them.Take off the two that are next to each other and the one on the opposite side if you have five total.
Step 4: The washers need to be removed from the lugnuts.
These are the things that keep the hubcaps on.You'll need them if you put them aside.
Step 5: Attach the nuts with care.
You don't need to completely tighten them. Then use the wrench to tighten them.As you remove the other two washers, these three will keep the tire in place.
Step 6: The hubcap can be removed with the help of the other two bolts.
The hubcap should slide off without the washers.
Step 7: Place the hub cap on the bolts and replace the two nuts.
There is a small cut out that needs to fit over the tire valve.Line this up, then put the new hubcap on and tighten the nuts.Don't worry about full tightness, just tighten them by hand.
Step 8: Put the washers back on and remove the first three.
If you want your tire to be back where it started, you have to tighten them by hand. The washers can be slipped over the section.
Step 9: Attach the crowbar to the nuts to make sure they are tight.
At first, tighten them by hand.Working in a circle, tighten them each quarter-turn until they don't want to move too much.If you tighten one screw completely, it can bend or warp the hubcap.
Step 10: Pull the e-brake after setting the car in park.
This is a simple safety measure that should not be overlooked.Make sure that the car can't move while you work on the wheels or under the care.
Step 11: You need to remove the screw from the hubcap.
It could be under a plastic piece if it is not immediately visible.Carefully remove the small cover with a screwdriver.
Step 12: The old hubcap can be removed with the screw.
The screw should be placed somewhere safe so it won't roll away or get lost.
Step 13: Attach the hubcap to the wheel and replace the screw.
Grab the screwdriver after threading it in by hand.
Step 14: Don't over-tighten the screw by using a screwdriver.
Don't feel like you need to break your back if you tighten it enough.
Step 15: Pull the e-brake after parking the car on the ground.
It's important that the car is unable to move before you start working.
Step 16: The old hubcap can be loosened by Prying around the rim with a screwdriver.
When you feel the cap wiggle loose, use a flat-head screwdriver.Stop and move if something feels like it will break or snap.It might be necessary to loosen a few areas to get it off.
Step 17: The hubcap has to be removed.
Remove the old hub cap.
Step 18: Place the hubcap on the wheel.
Line it up with the old one to know where the little cutaway is for the valve stem.
Step 19: The hub cap should stay on if you tap the rim all the way around.
It isn't secure yet.
Step 20: To secure the hubcap, hit it with a rubber mallet very carefully.
To perfect it, lightly tap it into place, working all the way around the rim.You should light "clicks" when it comes in.
