The Jabbawockeez is an American hip-hop dance crew that won the first season of America's Best Dance Crew.Kevin "KB" Brewer and Joe Larot formed an innovative dance crew in San Diego.The idea was to disrupt the existing dance scene.They felt that dance crews were clones of one another and were dancing to the "top" of the music instead of digging into it.They were able to strike a balance between dancing to the music and dancing as an artistic expression with Jabbawockeez.

The Jabbawockeez's members were Phil "Swagger Boy" Tayag, Ben "B-Tek" Chung, Chris "Cristyle" Gatdula, and Jeff "Phi" Nguyen.Tony "Transformer" Tran joined the crew.The Jabbawockeez doesn't have a group leader, they make their own music, dance and design choices as a collective unit.[2]

The dancers wore ski masks and gloves.The mask and glove was adopted as a tribute to the 1970s San Francisco strutting crew.The MindTricks dance crew had two members who were active in the San Francisco Bay Area.There is no lead dancer in our crew.When you watch us perform, you have to look at us as a whole.It's not about who we are or where we came from when we put the masks on.We are all one.Joe Larot came up with the name Jabbawockeez, which was inspired by the nonsense monster from the Lewis Carroll poem.The group switched to their signature white masks and gloves over time in order to better fit their image.In San Diego, through Gary's connections, the Jabbawockeez added b-boys "Kid Rainen" Paguio and "Cristyle" Gatdula.The original eight members of the Jabbawockeez formed a group in 2004.Gary, Randy, Phil, Kevin, Joe, and Chris were in this lineup.

Jabbawockeez added more members to bring their total to eleven.Jeff "Phi" Nguyen, a native of Phoenix, earned a spot in the Jabbawockeez after battling Kevin Brewer in 2004.Ben "B-Tek" Chung, Eddie "styles" Gutierrez, and Saso Fresh were brought in by the Jabbawockeez.The Jabbawockeez style of dance features an eclectic mix of various urban styles, primarily popping & b-boying, along with a careful synchronicity to self-created instrumentals which one member calls "Beat-Kune-Do".The Jabbawockeez appeared on the second season of America's Got Talent.The group was eliminated in Las Vegas.They were accepted onto the first season of America's Best Dance Crew after auditioning.There are also requests for Philani Mangezi and Tooboi.

The Jabbawockeez tried out for the first season of America's Best Dance Crew because of crew member limits imposed by the show.Gary Kendell was supposed to be in the group but he died and Joe suffered a knee injury during the auditioning rounds.They became the winners of the show.The crew earned $100,000 after the win.[3]

The Jabbawockeez have appeared in a number of commercials and TV shows, including Dancing with the Stars, So You Think You Can Dance, and Live with Regis and Kelly.They toured with New Kids on the Block and Jesse McCartney as well as launching their own clothing line.Jabbawockeez was the opening act for the Battle of the VMAsABDC special.The group appeared on America's Next Top Model to help the contestants learn how to convey their emotions with their bodies.Shake It Up is a Disney Channel Comedy Show.On February 15, 2009, they danced with the NBA All-Star center in his introduction to the game.They performed in front of a crowd of 35,000 at the University of Florida.The 66th Annual International Career Development Conference was held in Salt Lake City.Jabbawockeez returned to America's Best Dance Crew on June 5, 2011.They were backup dancers for Taylor Swift.They appeared in the second episode of The Bachelorette.They starred in a music video in 2020.

The Jabbawockeez went to Australia in August of 2009.Australian fans were unable to see the crew due to the cancellation of the Australian leg of New Kids on the Block's Full Service Tour.The group made several appearances on MTV.[13]

On May 7, 2010, the Jabbawockeez were brought to Las Vegas to perform for talent agents Steve Vera and Herman Flores.They are the first dance crew to perform in Las Vegas.The winners of season two of America's Best Dance Crew were on the show.The costumes for the show were designed by Kara Saun.The show was extended through August because it was scheduled to end in June.The show has moved to the Jupiters Hotel and Casino on the Gold Coast in Australia.They moved to the Luxor Hotel and Casino for their new show.David Garibaldi painted a mural of the crew in the lobby of PRiSM's new theater.In November 2015, The Jabbawockeez started performing their show called "JREAMZ" at the MGM Grand.

JBWKZ Records was founded to create and distribute their own music.JBWKZ Records was the first record label to create music for dancers.The label signed a production group in 2010.The production group built a close-knit relationship with the crew, and released their first joint-single entitled "Robot Remains." The single quickly became one of the Jabbawockeez most important records, being closely tied to the dance crew's most notable dance piece.

The Bangerz worked closely with the crew on multiple albums.The album was composed entirely of music used to score the Jabbawockeez show in Las Vegas.The crew's second Las Vegas production, "Prism", was accompanied by the second album from The Bangerz.The "Movement" album was produced by The Bangerz in 2015.The album's lead single, "Two Step", reached over 8 million views in its accompanying video.TJ Lewis was signed by the label in 2019.He released two singles, "Jabba The Dawn" and "Focus".The Bangerz are working with JBWKZ Records to produce a new album in 2020.

In partnership with Coca-Cola, the Jabbawockeez featured in a dance video to raise funds for children in underdeveloped countries.Coca-Cola agreed to donate 60 days worth of life-saving medicine to children afflicted with HIV for every dance video choreographed to the song "Celebrate" by Empire of the Sun and Tommy Trash and tagged "#CokeRedMoves"Coca-Cola will donate up to $25,000 to the Global Fund for the first 1000 videos submitted.Jabbawockeez danced with other well-known dancers in the premiere dance video.[17][18]

The Jabbawockeez appeared in an episode of Master of None.In the episode, the Jabbawockeez are guest judges on the series's fictional TV program, but they will not remove their masks to taste the cupcakes.

The group competed on the first season of World of Dance.They lost to Ian Eastwood and The Young Lions.

Universal Studios Hollywood Halloween Horror Nights nighttime event took place in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.[19]

The group is in the music video of DaBaby's song "BOP"On December 7, they performed with DaBaby on Saturday Night Live as a musical guest and host.

America's Best Dance Crew was the first significant achievement of the Jabbawockeez.The Jabbawockeez were voted as the Favorite Reality TV Star at the 2008 Asian Excellence Awards.They were the first dance crew to receive the Living Legend of Hip Hop Award.The Jabbawockeez presented BabyWockee with her number after receiving a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Set It Off Competition.[22]
