The life of the Boleyn sisters, Mary and Anne, begins before Anne became Queen of England.Mary was favored by the King at the time she was married to William Carey.Catherine of Aragon was the monarch's first wife.Mary is forced to become one of the King's mistresses despite her objections.Mary is troubled that her husband did not object strongly enough to her relationship with the King, even though he claims she has not offended him.Mary is affected by feelings of guilt whenever she serves Queen Catherine because she is aware of the fact that she has an affair.Mary begins to fall in love with the King as she comes to terms with her relationship with him.
Mary's sister Anne fell in love with a member of the aristocracy and heir to the title of Duke of Northumberland.Anne and Lord Henry act flirtatiously when they are around each other.Mary is at the top of her power as the King's primary mistress.Mary shares her concerns with their parents and their uncle who all condemn Anne's behavior, warning her that she is making a grave mistake in continuing her relationship with a man who is already engaged to be married to the daughter of an Earl.Mary's family is worried that Anne will endanger her relationship with the King.Anne screams at Mary that she won't forgive or forget what she did and she will not listen to Mary's explanation.The family seat of Hever Castle is where Anne left in exile.

Two years have passed and Anne can't seem to have a child.In front of all the court she demands to know the identity of the king's mistress as her behavior becomes erratic.Her father berates her for her behavior, followed by the king who drives her out of the room.Anne wants respect but her father tells her she has enemies.
