The life of the Boleyn sisters, Mary and Anne, begins before Anne became Queen of England.Mary was favored by the King at the time she was married to William Carey.Catherine of Aragon was the monarch's first wife.Mary is forced to become one of the King's mistresses despite her objections.Mary is troubled that her husband did not object strongly enough to her relationship with the King, even though he claims she has not offended him.Mary is affected by feelings of guilt whenever she serves Queen Catherine because she is aware of the fact that she has an affair.Mary begins to fall in love with the King as she comes to terms with her relationship with him.

Mary's sister Anne fell in love with a member of the aristocracy and heir to the title of Duke of Northumberland.Anne and Lord Henry act flirtatiously when they are around each other.Mary is at the top of her power as the King's primary mistress.Mary shares her concerns with their parents and their uncle who all condemn Anne's behavior, warning her that she is making a grave mistake in continuing her relationship with a man who is already engaged to be married to the daughter of an Earl.Mary's family is worried that Anne will endanger her relationship with the King.Anne screams at Mary that she won't forgive or forget what she did and she will not listen to Mary's explanation.The family seat of Hever Castle is where Anne left in exile.

Mary admits that she is falling in love with the king and feels no remorse for Anne's banishment.Anne misses Henry and doesn't believe she will fall in love again.She came up with a plan that will allow her to be returned to court.Mary is readying herself for a tryst with the King when her husband arrives unexpectedly, asking her to spend the night with him.Mary reminded him of his duty to the king.He asks her if she will come to him the next night but again she turns him down and he leaves in anger to find another woman to spend his nights with.

Mary is pregnant with a child that is thought to be the King's due to her separation from William.Anne tells her family she is honored to be there and that she wants to serve them in any way she can.Mary is skeptical of her sister's words.George Boleyn arranges a plan for Anne to distract the king as Mary enters her confinement, while he is walking with other ladies at court.The King told Anne that he found her more attractive than Mary, despite Anne telling him that Mary was glowing.

Mary gave birth to a boy.Mary leaves court to be with her son, leaving Anne to take her place as the king's mistress.Mary is distressed when William seems to care little for his child when Mary returns to her husband and they have a daughter together.Anne gets new chambers at court after William dies from sweating sickness.When the king makes their relationships more official, she tells Mary that she needs her by her side all the time.Mary is shocked by this and reminds Anne of her love for Henry, but Anne claims to have felt nothing for him, threatening her sister if she ever reveals their relationship.

Anne was told by the King that they can't be together if there was ever a relationship between them.Anne forced Mary to lie and say that there was no betrothal, to appease the king, Anne slept with him for the first time, and Anne became pregnant.Anne gives birth to a daughter, not the male heir the King is focused upon, and her hold on him begins to slip as he takes a mistress.

Mary left court to meet William Stafford, a former servant of the Boleyn family, who had previously declared his love for her.Anne tells Mary that she had brought shame and disgrace to the family when she accepted his proposal of marriage.

Two years have passed and Anne can't seem to have a child.In front of all the court she demands to know the identity of the king's mistress as her behavior becomes erratic.Her father berates her for her behavior, followed by the king who drives her out of the room.Anne wants respect but her father tells her she has enemies.
