No doubt, the Pickle Room is an institution. The building in which it resides used to be part of Santa Barbara's Chinatown from the late 1800s onward. There are a lot of Asian touches in the building's decor, architecture, and roofing. There is a plaque that tells the story of Jimmy's Oriental Gardens. The original Chinese restaurant's sign still stands above the bar."Jimmy's!" will occasionally be referred to as The Pickle Room. The Santa Barbara sun goes down after walking through the doors. You might need to use your cell phone's flashlight to read the menu offerings in the dark. You can't come here without trying a few things, one of which is the Pickletini. The Pastrami Dip is equally delicious and accompanied by sauerkraut and a house dressing similar to Thousand Island. Smitty's Burger is one of the best burgers in Santa Barbara. The Old Fashioned, Sazerac, and Boo Boo Kitty are some of the boldest drinks on the menu. They are very fast at whipping up stiff drinks and have an excellent recollection of drink orders and regulars.Word!I'm not sure if I would consider it a "dive bar" but you can decide for yourself.
While in Santa Barbara, I went to this place for drinks. We had already eaten their bar snacks and they looked and sounded great. The drinks were delicious. The prices were fair and there was plenty of room to sit and enjoy each other. It's worth checking it out.
The place is a historical classic.I often come here with a few of my friends to relax after work and salivate over Jersey or Willie's famous Old-Fashions.They are two of the best Bartender's in the Santa Barbara area. The old style red booths and traditional bar configuration are what I like most about the Pickle Room. They have a lot of jazz musicians playing in a low-lit atmosphere which makes it easy to relax after a long day.The Smitty burger is one of the most delicious sandwiches in the world and I always order it even though I don't usually drink here.Happy hour menu with generous pricing!
I don't come to this part of town often, but it's definitely worth a try.I try to patronizing this spot when I find myself in this neighborhood. It's a treat to walk in here. The lounge-y, relaxed vibe of the Pickle Room is a nice break from the other bars in the area. The dimly lit room and nostalgic decor bring you back to an era of simpler times and true blue cocktails. There aren't a lot of places like this in our town.Whenever I come here, I have to order their signature Pickle Back shot, which is essentially a healthy pouring of Jameson Whiskey accompanied by an equally as healthy shot of pickle juice!Shoot the Jameson and then chase it down with the juice. It actually works well, even though it sounds weird.I think it's a must try.If you're looking for a rowdy environment, don't come here.If you are looking to get away from the craze downtown but still want to keep it classy, then come here.I'll be back soon!
The pickle room is very nice.Good drinks and great bar food can be found at a regulars joint in the middle of downtown.I tried the fried rice on my last visit and would recommend it to anyone. It had sesame seeds in it.There isn't much room for people to stand around and wait for the first seat because the place is so small. We usually have a back up plan in case it gets crowded.
Locals support your business. We visit this place a lot.The shade spot was refused because it was a 4 seater.I'll take my business somewhere else. The waitress was rude.
The dive bar is a hidden gem. It's one of those places that many of us are hesitant to review in fear that it may lose its local charm. The traditional Whiskey Sour is made with egg whites and has a Luxardo Cherry in it.The Mai Tai is popular but I prefer to get the top shelf version of the Pickle Room and not the cancer cherry that comes with it.The bar food menu is what keeps me coming back to the Pickle Room. It's small but delicious. That's what she said.I recommend ordering a Double Smittey Burger, Fried Rice w/ Egg and Fried Shrimp.Bar food is the best!Fast and cheap. The El Presidio Real Santa Barbara was built in 1752 and is located two blocks off the beaten State Street path. This bar is a great place to go back in time.
The locals still call it Jimmy's, but The Pickle room is one of the few gems that has old Santa Barbara charm.Primarily a locals hangout. It's not close to a dive bar.The mid century decor of the Pickle Room takes you back to simpler times when the world was friendlier. It feels like 40 years ago when you walk through the door. The drinks are strong. The bar menu is small but delicious. My job is the lamb pops. The Smitty burger is delicious. It's my favorite place to hang out on Friday nights.
My favorite bar in town is a locals place. They have good food and drinks. The environment is fun with Chinese lanterns and red leather booths. The real maraschino cherries are from luxardo.
