The finished product is more versatile and can be used in a variety of applications. When you only have a single strand of rope, there are a number of ways you can braid it.
Step 1: Pick the rope of your choice.
A classic schoolgirl hair braid is one of the most common ways to braid. This technique can be used to make a braided rope.In high-friction situations, braided ropes are appropriate.Synthetic rope, natural rope and plastic cords can be used for this method. You can work with it if you are flexible. Before you start, make sure the ends of your strands are not damaged. If you have a synthetic rope, you can hold it over a candle to cause it to melt.Tie twine around the end portion of the strand to bind it together. The practice of whipping involves securing the ends of the strands with tape.
Step 2: Bind the ends together.
To bind the ends of your strands, use a knot or some tape.Depending on the thickness of the strands you are using, electrical tape and gaffer tape are good choices. You can stretch the rest of the rope towards the right-hand end once you have bound the strands together. The three strands should be lying next to each other. It is helpful to label the three strands A, B, and C.
Step 3: Go across the central one.
Start by crossing strand A over strand B.Next, cross the other strand across the central strand, C over A.The order will be B, C, A.This is a basic repetition of the braiding pattern.
Step 4: You can repeat the outside to pattern.
Continue crossing one strand over the central strand, and then crossing the other strand on the new strand.B is the central strand in this example.A is the central strand if you cross A over B.The pattern can be continued until you reach the end of the rope.
Step 5: Don't tie the rope.
You can secure the braid by binding the strands together once you reach the end of the rope. You can tie a strong knot at the end by taping the ends together with electrical tape.
Step 6: Start by using a flexible cord.
Since you will be braiding together multiple strands, you need to make sure the rope you use is flexible enough for you to work with.It will be difficult to get a tight braid with something that is too stiff.A four- strand braid is a good choice for high-friction uses.Either melting the end of a synthetic rope or tying or taping a natural rope will ensure that each strand is fused. The rope should be stronger because of the extra strand.
Step 7: You can join the ends.
Four strands of rope are needed for this braiding technique. The easiest way to do this is to tie a knot with four pieces of rope at one end.You could use electrical tape to secure them.If you bend two pieces of rope in half and treat the two ends of one piece as two strands, you can get a total of four strands. If you work in bunches of two, you can use eight strands of rope. The four strands are labelled A, B, C, and D.
Step 8: Cross the strands together.
Wrap C around B so that it crosses over B before winding underneath it and back to its original position in the cluster. When you are done with this step, the ends of all four strands should be the same. The order should be A, B, C, D.
Step 9: Go over the middle.
Bring strand A over strand B.The order of the strand ends should be B, A, C, D.
Step 10: The rest of the end should be interwoven.
Bring strand D up from the other side of C and pass it over strand A.Do not cross B with D.The order of the strand ends should be B, D, A, and C at the end of this step.
Step 11: The pattern is repeated down the rope.
If you follow the same pattern you will be able to make the braid as long as you need it to be or until you are almost out of rope. The strands should be labeled as A, B, C, D at the beginning of each round.Wrap C around B.Bring A over B.Under C and over A.
Step 12: You should join at the other end.
You need to join the strands at the end of the rope once the braid is complete. They can be fused together or created a knot to hold them in place.
Step 13: Start by using a flexible cord.
The strength of braided rope is not as strong as it is because it involves only one strand. The rope has to have a high level of flexibility so that you can work with it.A stiff cord won't work with this method.Depending on what you want to use it for, it can be any length.Ropes are used for rigging and pulling.Unless you have had the rope checked out by an expert who can vouch for its safety, don't use it.
Step 14: Use the rope to make a loop.
A section of rope will be braided if you are doing a single rope braid. When you know how long you want the braided section to be, make a loop in the rope that is about the same size. The two ends of the rope can be slid towards the centre. The right side of the rope is above the left side.
Step 15: You can pass one end through the loop.
Bring the end of the rope from the right side to the left side in an over and under movement once you have your loop. The right-hand end of the rope should be below the main loop.
Step 16: Take the loop out.
The loop should be bent down so that it crosses over the original loop.If you want to avoid the open end of the loop, make this crossing near the first braid of your rope. This will create the beginnings of a braid-like pattern and allow you to pass the right-hand end of the rope through.Just a short distance away from the new intersection you created, the top portion of the loop should cross back over the bottom portion.A new, smaller loop or hole should form just past the original link of your braid.
Step 17: The end can be passed through the hole.
You just created a hole in the previous step, so insert the right-hand end of the rope.Another link in the braid is formed by this action. The rope will go through the hole if it goes over the bottom portion of the loop and under the top portion. The right-hand end should now be above the rest of the rope.
Step 18: Down the length of the rope is how to do it.
You will need to weave the right-hand end of the rope through the holes created by twisting the larger loop.Once you have enough of the large loop, you can use it for the creation of new sub-loops.
Step 19: The braid needs to be loosened.
For the last time, thread the right-hand end of the rope through the small loop.To tighten the braid, pull on both ends of the rope.
Step 20: Start by using a single cord.
A single strand is all you need to make a Monkey Braid.Monkey braids can be used to shorten a rope. They can be used as a way to store rope. You can use synthetic or natural rope, but make sure the material is flexible so that you can work with it.The stiff plastic cords can prevent you from getting a tight braid.A nice looking chain can be made using a Monkey Braid. These braids can be seen on dress uniforms.
Step 21: You can make a loop.
You need to make a loop in the rope by pushing the right-hand end towards the left until the loop pops up.Ensure that the loops start near to the left-hand end of the rope because the point where this loop starts will be where the braid starts.
Step 22: Go through the loop on the long side.
You need to push the rope through the loop by taking it from the long end.You are pushing the rope that is closest to the loop.Only use a small part of the rope.Pull a small U-shaped portion of rope through your initial loop to create a second loop.Pull it down through the loop and out to tighten it.It is easier to tighten each loop when using this method.Trying to tighten the loops when you're done with the braid can cause it to be loose.
Step 23: The part needs to be turned into a new loop.
You should pull the rope to the right side if you just pulled it through the loop.
Step 24: Make another loop.
Make sure that the rope is next to the loop you just created by pinching it from the working end.Push it under, through, and out of the loop on the braid.
Step 25: The length of the rope is repeated.
New loops from the working side of the rope are pulled larger loops to complete the braid. From the working end, pinch another section of rope.Under the previous loop made in the rope, push this section.Down the length of the rope, repeat this as necessary.
Step 26: The last loop leads to the end.
One final loop should be created when you have enough braids in the rope.To create a locking loop at the end, pass the working end of the rope over the last loop and through it.To tighten the braid, pull snug on the loose ends of the rope.
