William Steig created a donkey that was adapted for the Shrek franchise.Eddie Murphy is the voice of the character.He is the goofy best friend of the main character, and he is unattractive.[2]

There is a sale of mythical characters from beloved fairy-tales being sold to the evil Lord Farquaad's knights.An old woman attempts to sell Donkey, but magic pixie dust accidentally is unleashed upon him from a caged fairy, thus giving him the temporary ability to fly.The spell that was unleashed upon Donkey broke and he fell to the ground, being chased by Farquaad's knights into the woods.The Donkey is very annoying and reluctant to meet him.

Since he has no one else, Donkey wants to stay with him.However, due to Donkey's constant begging, he only allows him to stay outside of his house for one night.The fairy tale creatures reveal that Lord Farquaad evicted them from the swamp when Donkey denied bringing them there.Seeing how Donkey knows where Farquaad is and is the only one who is willing to help, he accompanies Shrek to Duloc.

Farquaad has his men try to kill Shrek in an arena to find the perfect champion to bring him back to PrincessFiona, who he wants to make his bride.Farquaad decided to have Shrek be his champion instead of Donkey after they easily defeated his men.Shrek only wants his swamp back.When Farquaad offers a deal to return him his swamp if he agrees to go on the quest, Shrek agrees and Donkey follows him.The fire-breathing dragon caught the attention of Donkey while he was coming to the castle.

Donkey is caught and cornered.The dragon is flattered by Donkey's compliment, and he tries to avoid his fate by comparing the dragon to a female.She wants to be intimate with him.The two narrowly escaped with the Princess after Donkey rescues him.

One night, during camp, Donkey asks Shrek why he hates everyone so much, and he angrily reveals that everyone judges him a scary monster before getting to know him.When they met, Donkey knew there was more to the character.Despite their denials, Donkey begins to notice a romance between the two characters.The next night, Donkey goes inside a windmill to talk to the Princess, but she becomes an ogre after the sun goes down.Shrek misinterprets the conversation as being disrespectful to him.On the next day, Lord Farquaad comes to take her.

Donkey tried to clear things up with Shrek, but he was berates and insulted by him.Hurt and angry, Donkey claims his half of the swamp for helping him.After the two got into a heated argument, Donkey explained thatFiona did not say that Shrek was ugly.The two become friends after hearing this.In order to clear things up with each other, Donkey has the dragon, whom he reconnected with earlier.After Dragon swallows Farquaad, Donkey sings "I'm a Believer" at the wedding reception and takes his love, Dragon, as his wife.He sings "Baby Got Back" at the karaoke party.

Donkey is the first character to appear in the film, having been at the house of Shrek while he was away on his honeymoon.Donkey is hesitant when they come back.He decided to move back in with them after learning that he was having troubles in his relationship with Dragon as she was acting strangely, but he could not determine the cause.He is forced to leave by Shrek.

Donkey came back and said that a chariot of royal men had arrived.A messenger tells a newlywed couple that their parents have invited them to a royal ball to celebrate their marriage, as well as her father to give his blessing.He is hesitant to accept, as he knows that her parents will never accept them as Ogres, though he eventually gives up and goes, accompanied by Donkey to the Far Far Away kingdom, but keeps asking "Are we there yet?"They keep answering no.

He is jealous that he is spending a lot of time with Puss in Boots.They are great friends by the end of the film.At one point in the film, he reveals that he was the donkey traded by Jack for the magic beans, which offended him.He drank the "Happily Ever After" Potion from the Fairy Godmother's workshop and while he was transformed into a human, Donkey became a magnificently bred and handsome white stallion (albeit with the same buck teeth and voice), and on the bottle it says that it is not for.After which everyone stares at Donkey as it is clear that he has one, but Donkey is confused as to why everyone is staring at him.

The donkey is going back to the castle.The person who had changed back to human form was running to find the person he was looking for.Shrek went inside to look for her after Donkey explained why they changed.It was Charming and Fairy Godmother who beat them both to it, as they tricked both of them into thinking thatFiona was better off with Charming.In a bar called "The Poison Apple," Shrek, Donkey and Puss are having a good time, until they discover that Harold was talking to Fairy Godmother about the scam.When Donkey's talking habits cause him to blurt out, they are both caught.They are caught and arrested by Godmother's men.Gingerbread Man has The Muffin Man create a giant Gingerbread man called "Mongo", which Donkey helps lead to the castle, because the other fairy tale creatures witnessed this.Mongo is defeated by the castle's guards after getting in.

After the trio finished their mission, both return to their normal forms, though Donkey seemed to be quite disappointed at returning to his original form, although he later sings "Livin' La Vida Loca" along with Puss.After the credits, Donkey and Dragon are back together and he meets their newborn children, flying flame breathing miniature Donkeys, although he ends up saying "I gotta get a job!".He sings "Disco Inferno" on the show.

In the third film of the series, Donkey is enjoying being a father, and he is still the main character.When Far Far Away is in need of a new king, Donkey goes off to look for Artie at the boarding school where he lives.In their magical transport back to Far Far Away, Donkey and Puss accidentally switch bodies.

Puss finds Donkey's quadrupedal form hideous and can't figure out how he can walk with such fancy accessories.They have to put their differences aside in order to save Far Far Away.In the next scene, their tails have been corrected as well, but after they were defeated, Merlin came to change them back.He is playing with the triplets.

Puss and Donkey performed "Thank You (Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin)" in the credits.

In the fourth film, Donkey brings his "Dronkey" children over to the swamp to help with the daily chaos.He ruined the babies' birthday party.

In Rumplestiltskin's alternate universe, Donkey first meets Shrek when he pulled a wagon the ogre was imprisoned in, forced to sing (reminiscent of a car stereo) by the witches, who whip him to change songs.After being taken to Rumplestiltskin, Shrek escapes and takes Donkey with him.After seeing Shrek cry over his baby's toy, Donkey came back and ran away.After seeing an ogre cry, Donkey decided to befriend him.

A loophole in Rumplestiltskin's contract is found by Donkey, who compares the situation to The Twilight Zone.The duo meet Puss and the rebellion of the ogres in the woods, and they befriend the other characters as well.Donkey leads the assault on Rumplestiltskin's castle after saving Shrek andFiona from the Piedpiper.He tried to seduce the Dragon after learning that she is his wife in the other reality, but he failed to stop her from eating both of them.After Rumplestiltskin is defeated, Donkey sadly watches as his time is up.

With reality restored, Donkey celebrates the children's birthday.He and the other characters are last seen making a mud angel, after he is playfully devoured by Dragon.

In the Christmas special, Shrek The Halls, Donkey is trying to help him get his Christmas spirit.Eddie Murphy voiced Donkey.

He appeared in the 2010 Halloween special Scared Shrekless, in which he challenged his friends to spend the night in Lord Farquaad's castle while telling scary stories.It is the first time that main cast member Eddie Murphy did not reprise his role.The short Donkey was released along with the movie.

Donkey is in the musical.Daniel Breaker was a Tony Award nominee.There are two people playing the role in the West End production and the United States national tour.

Eddie Murphy voices Donkey in an episode of Father of the Pride.There were two Donkeys, one was a stunt double and the other was the actual Donkey.In this episode, Donkey is portrayed as arrogant and self-centered actor, who plays his counterpart in the film series.He claims that the third movie in the series is coming out in 2006
