There are changes coming to Disney's Typhoon Lagoon.

One of the water parks at the Disney World Resort is Disney's Typhoon Lagoon.Disney's River Country was the first water park to close at the resort.

One of the world's largest wave pools can be found at the park, which opened in 1989.The "Disney legend" of a typhoon that wreaked havoc upon a formerly pristine tropical paradise is the theme of the park. There are ships, fishing gear, and surfboards strewn about where the storm flung them.Every half hour, a geyser of water erupts from a mountain named "Mount Mayday" that is impaled on a shrimp boat."Lagoona Gator" is its mascot.

The park admitted 2,277,000 visitors in 2016 making it the second most visited water park in the world.During the fall or winter, it closes for maintenance.Blizzard Beach will remain open during the closure.

It is the only park at Disney World that is within the city limits. There are four theme parks within the city of Bay Lake. The entire Walt Disney World Resort has a mailing address.

The water park and all of the other Disney World parks were closed in March 2020.The four theme parks reopened July 11–15, 2020, but Disney's Typhoon Lagoon remains closed.[3][4]

There are many waterfalls and slides at Mount Mayday, which is located behind the surf pool. The mountain hides the pipework and provides launching areas for the water slides.

Water wave generation and propagation were studied in the main engineering works performed in 1988 and 1989.One of the first wave-makers to be applied to a theme park was the Typhoon Lagoon, which produced surfable waves.Waves are generated by a 12-cell prestressed concrete tank in the background of the lagoon. At the time, computer modeling techniques were used to study fluid-structure interaction, stress concentrations, and fatigue.Prior to its opening, the typhoon lagoon was tested to determine wave shape, surf-board ride duration, and the extent to which the waves give a natural feeling as they break on the artificial beach downstream.[5]

Behind the dressing rooms is a sandy beach called Hideaway Bay.
