Vinyl car wraps can help promote a business by displaying logos and branding on your vehicle, but they can wear out over time and need to be replaced. If your old vinyl wrap is cracked or damaged, you can easily remove it yourself with a few simple tools. It's easy to clean off after you get the wrap off your vehicle.Your vehicle will be ready for another wrap when you finish.
Step 1: Out of the sun, work is being done.
It is more difficult to remove the bond to your vehicle's body if you work in the sun.Wait until there is an overcast day to remove your wrap, or work inside a garage if you can.The vinyl will rip in smaller pieces if the wrap is removed in cold temperatures.
Step 2: A plastic scraper is needed to lift the edges of the wrap.
The edges of your wrap can be found around the doors, hood, and trunk. To get started, peel the edge slightly with your finger. If you can't lift the edge with your fingernails, use a plastic scraper to peel it back. You can get plastic scrapers from a hardware store. You should not use metal razor blades to peel the edges of the vehicle.
Step 3: A heat gun is needed to heat the wrap.
As you use the heat gun, hold it 6 in (15 cm) away from your vehicle. The heat gun should be moved back and forth to distribute the heat evenly. As you heat it, tug at the edge of the wrap to see if it can be removed. You can buy a heat gun at any hardware store. If the vinyl is covering chrome, don't heat it.If you heat the wrap enough, you can comfortably hold it without gloves.
Step 4: Wrap can be pulled from the vehicle at a 15- to 20- degree angle.
Spread your fingers out on top of your wrap by putting your thumbs underneath it.Pull up the wrap when it is at a 15-degree angle to the vehicle. If you can keep your wrap in a single piece, it will be easier to take off.If you want the wrap to stick on your vehicle, avoid peeling it off at a 90-degree angle.
Step 5: If it's difficult to remove, heat the wrap.
The wrap will stick to your vehicle's body when it cools down, making it more difficult to peel it off.The heat gun should be used near the edge of the peeling. As you pull the wrap off, make sure the heat is evenly distributed.
Step 6: If you want to remove the chemical from your skin, spray it on and let it soak for a minute.
A non-abrasive chemical cleaner is meant to break apart bonds.Put the glue in a spray bottle and apply it to it.The time it takes to soak in the glue is 1 minute.Your local hardware store can sell the product. If you don't have a spray bottle, you can wet a cloth with the glue and apply it to the vehicle.
Step 7: Use a cleaning cloth to wipe the glue away.
When cleaning your vehicle, use a clean rag.Apply firm pressure to the area to make sure you remove all of the glue. The surface should feel smooth when you finish.
Step 8: Rub alcohol or soapy water on the vehicle's exterior.
A cloudy stain can be left on your vehicle.Use a cloth soaked in soapy water or rubbing alcohol to wipe the area you just cleaned. You can use a standard glass cleaner if you're cleaning the window.
