Nothing says spring like an arrangement of tulips fresh from the garden or flower shop.Tulips can last up to 10 days after cutting if you know how to care for them. You can prolong the beauty of fresh blooms if you display them in the right place and give them plenty of water. There are tricks you can use to create a long- lasting tulip arrangement.
Step 1: Young tulips are a good choice.
You might be tempted to buy tulips with fully-opened, vibrantly colored petals at the flower shop.If you want your tulips to last a long time, choose tulips that are still tightly closed, with some green buds that aren't fully colored yet.The flowers will open over the course of a few days, giving you more time to enjoy them.If you want your tulips to last as long as possible in a vase, cut them before they're fully opened.Cut as close to the ground as possible.
Step 2: The stems can be wrapped in wet cloth or paper towels.
When you bring the tulips home from the shop, keep them wrapped in paper towels or a cloth soaked in fresh water. This will prevent the tulips from drying out on the way home. You can do this even if it's not very far from the flower shop.Tulips will age faster if there is no water.
Step 3: From the base of the stems, cut 4 inch.
Cut the stems with a pair of clippers. They will be able to soak up the water from the vase.
Step 4: Extra leaves can be removed from the stems.
If the leaves are submerged in water when you put them in the vase, remove them. The flowers could go limp if the leaves start rotting.
Step 5: You can choose a vase.
Pick a vase that will rise to cover at least half of the tulips you brought home. They will be able to lean against the vase. The flowers will eventually bend forward if you use a shorter vase. Some people like this effect, but it may cause the flowers to die more quickly.
Step 6: The vase should be washed.
Make sure it isn't leftover from your last bouquet.Use soap and warm water to wash it, then dry it with a towel. The fresh tulips won't pick upbacteria that could cause them to rot more quickly.
Step 7: Put cold water in the vase.
Warm or hot water can cause the stems to become weak and soggy.
Step 8: The stems should be positioned.
Rather than leaning them all on top of one another, arrange the tulips so that they have a little space in the vase.Giving them each a little room will prevent them from crushing one another, which will lead to premature drop-page and shorten the lifespan of your flowers.
Step 9: Fresh water should be kept in the vase.
Tulips drink a lot of water.Make sure they don't run out completely or they'll die quickly.
Step 10: Some flower food can be added.
Adding flower food, which is available at flower shops, will greatly increase the lifespan of your flowers. When you add water, sprinkle some food in it.It will keep your tulips looking good for as long as possible.Lemon juice, pennies, and other items can be put in the vase with the flowers.Research shows that flower food is more effective than tricks.
Step 11: Tulips should not be styled with flowers from the Narcissus family.
The substance that causes flowers to fade faster is found in daffodils and other flowers in this family. The best place to display tulips is in a vase.
Step 12: Keep the vase away from the sun.
The area doesn't get too hot and sunny. The tulips will die in the heat.
