Tide's new Eco-Box isn't a Pod, but it looks like a box.

CNN Business reported over the weekend that Tide, the laundry detergent brand, would release new packaging in January that would be both eco-friendly and cheaper to ship.

There is a bag of detergent and a no-drip valve mechanism in the cardboard box.The Eco-Box was designed to be shipping-friendly from places like Amazon and Walmart, where more and more people are purchasing their laundry detergent. It contains less plastic and less water than the brand's traditional 150-ounce plastic tap bottle, and the release subtly bragged that more of the smaller packages would fit on delivery trucks.

CNN described the design as a "shoebox," but the new packaging doesn't look like one.It looks like wine.

It's good.Adults are going to think tide Pods are candy now that kids think they are.

The Tide Pods caused the deaths of small children and older adults with cognitive impairment when they were eaten, and the brand had to endure months of jokes about it.The Tide Pod challenge was a social media stunt in which teens were supposedly eating brightly colored, dissolvable detergent packets as a dare.

The hysteria came after that. The videos were being removed from YouTube.Tide had to tell people to stop eating them. Some conservatives seized on the meme as an example of why we shouldn't listen to teens after school shootings, even though likely not that many people were actually doing it.As a phenomenon, it got really blown out of proportion and ended up being a thing of the past.We are doing it all over again.

If you think teens like eating tidepods now, wait until you give them a goon bag.

When you can pour yourself a glass, why settle for Tide Pods? The new drink was purple.#mxhamofd4O

Tide's parent company, P&G, has not responded to a request for comment on the reaction to their new innovation.I think a PR manager wrote in an angry tone of voice that laundry detergent is for cleaning clothes. To make sure people know this is detergent, we put a large picture of our Tide bottle on the side of the box.Tide should be kept out of the reach of children if it is stored in a box or bottle.

This is an alternative explanation.Product developers at P&G are sensitive to the fact that their packaging may look like food.It was reported that many outlets wouldn't report about the ins and outs of sustainable packaging. It is not possible to put a price on media exposure.Did they intend to do it?Okay, probably not.Is it okay for them to get this kind of attention?Definitely.

Tide executives will open a bottle of something other than purple to celebrate their marketing win tonight.
