A good number of visitors to the site are interested in posts about Tofu.
I wanted to write a post about how to make an easy tofu dish and review this tofu that I always buy at Trader Joe's.Tofu is an excellent, high-quality protein that is plant-based and is inexpensive, which is why people are interested in it.What is not to like?
Tofu is a good thing that you should be eating even if you are not a vegetarian.Tofu is great for you, good for the planet, and easy to use in many ways.Tofu should be added to your shopping list if it isn't already on it.What about Meatless Mondays? That is a good start! We usually make a Japanese tofu steak recipe once a week in our house.
Trader Joe San has a good tofu in a pink and white package. It takes well to be cooked up as described here.Tofu seems to have no taste at all for most Americans.Tofu is good at absorbing flavors. What flavors do you like?Asian flavors include soy sauce, ginger, garlic, sesame oil, and cilantro. You can cook tofu with these flavors. What about the texture?I like to cook my tofu until it's golden brown and develop an outside surface texture with a small bite to the tooth, which it can get if cooked in certain ways. One of the best ways for me to make it is to grill it until golden brown and serve it with a sauce.
1.To drain as much water as possible, take the tofu out of the package, pour off all the water, and set it over a strainer.Allow it to sit for about an hour.I put a few plates on for a bit of pressure.
2.Carefully cut the tofu.If you want smaller pieces, cut them into half.Add tofu slices to a non-stick or cast iron pan if you want to add a little extra flavor. When it's golden brown, let it cook for 10 minutes at medium heat. The other side of the slices should be golden brown.I added some fresh ground black pepper to the picture.3.When the tofu slices are fried, you can either go with a sauce or a flavor. One way to cook the sauce is to add it to the pan and cook it in until most of it is absorbed.Remove the golden brown slices of tofu from the serving plate, then make your sauce and pour it over the tofu and around it.If you prefer the pouring over method, I would suggest you try it and see which you like.Depending on my mood, I like both ways.
A basic sauce can be made by sauteing ginger and garlic in some veg or sesame oil for a few seconds, then adding your liquids: 2 to 3 cups of low sodium soy sauce, Trader Joe's sells this.Maybe some veg or chicken stock.A small amount of sesame oil.If you like it, you can add Mushrooms, Oyster Sauce, Sriracha, Fish Sauce and chopped scallions. If it's very liquid, you can add a little liquid to make it better.
TJ's SOYAKI or TJ Ginger Soy salad dressing is a lazy option if you prefer to just buy a sauce for your tofu steak. Both Sriracha and Soy.Any flavor that might go well with it.
