Sometimes accidents happen, no matter how hard you try.If you spilled a glass of water over your silk tie in the rain, the water can leave a mark on it.It is possible to remove water marks on your own, even if the label tells you to dry clean your item.
Step 1: Find a piece of silk.
The piece of silk you use should be white.Don't use colored silk to remove stains. The colors could transfer during the process of stain removal if you rub your silk with colored silk.Try using a white pillow case. You can try a piece of white cotton if you can't find white silk.
Step 2: Rub the water mark with a piece of silk.
Place your stained garment on a flat surface.Rub the piece of white silk over the stain to remove it.The stain and colors can transfer. The goal is to get the stain out of the silk garment.
Step 3: Rub at a diagonal to the silk grain
You should pay attention to the grain pattern on your garment.Rub the grain. If you rub at a diagonal, it could cause your garment to lose its shape.
Step 4: Water can be boiled in a pot.
Put the pot on the stove. When the water comes to a boil, turn the heat on high.
Step 5: Hold your garment in the steam for a short time.
You don't want to drop your garment in the water. The steam created by the boiling water will stain the area. You don't need to keep steaming your garment for more than a minute.Don't burn yourself or the garment with the steam. The steam will help you avoid burns.
Step 6: To dry your garment, lie it on a clean towel.
A white towel is placed on a flat surface.Lie your steamed silk garment on the towel.Allow it to dry completely. If the stain doesn't go away, you should heat your water and repeat the process.
Step 7: The bowl should haveluke warm water and a small hint of detergent.
Make sure you use a detergent that is designed for delicate fabrics. The detergent should be put in the water.Allow time for detergent to be dissolved. The silk fibers in your garment could be affected by the acids in the detergent. The fabric could be dissolved by caustic alkalis.Do not use bleach on silk. The bleach erodes the fiber.
Step 8: The garment should be soaked inluke warm water for a few minutes.
If your fabric is printed, you should skip this step.Do not dip the garment into the water. The colors will not fade or run.Don't soak silk for more than a few minutes.
Step 9: The garment should be washed in warm water.
To remove soap from your bowl, empty it and rinse it.If you want to rinse the garment, draw it through the clean water. You can repeat this step a couple of times until you feel the soap has been washed.Adding distilled white vinegar to the rinsing water can counteract the effects of soap and alkalis.Adding a drop or two of hair conditioner to the rinsing water will give you extra soft silk.
Step 10: The garment needs to be dry.
A white towel is placed on a flat surface.Allow the garment to dry completely by placing it on top of the towel.Check to see if the water mark has been removed. If you wring the excess water out of the fabric, it will cause the garment to lose its shape.Don't dry your silk in the sun.The silk can be damaged by the sun.If the stain has been washed out in about an hour, you can check to see if the silk has dried quickly.
