In today's ingredient guide, I want to talk about the benefits of sardines.These little fishies are sustainable and good for you.There are many ways to eat sardines that are enjoyable.

That is to be expected of sardines.They are dense and oily.Tinned sardines are not as salty as anchovies or herring.

The taste is dependent on how prepared they are and what they pack in.It's nice to have good olive oil, water, or tomato sauce.I don't like vegetable oils that take away from the taste.

Freshly grilled sardines are simply seasoned with sea salt, parsley, lemon juice, and a touch of chilli.If you want to try them, try the fresh stuff first.Either grill them or pan-fry them.

I have heard that people are afraid of the bones in the sardines.The bones of sardines are too small to be removed.The bones are soft and can be chewed easily.They give a lot of calcium.

The fresh sardines you buy at the fishmonger are likely to be bigger than the canned ones.You can eat the rest, including little bones, if you discard the head and spine.

Iron deficiency is the most common deficiency in vegetarians and vegan.It is very common among pregnant women and low in men.50% of children are deficient in some regions.Ten million people in the United States don't get enough iron.

It is simple and effective to increase iron-rich food intake.Seeking out iron-enriched foods can be helpful if you can't meet your own needs.If you include a tin of sardines in your diet you will get 15% of the daily recommendation.Red meat, offal, eggs, leafy greens, nuts and seeds are some of the rich sources.

Smoking before preserving this fish in oil adds the most incredible flavour to them and transforms them into something much more gourmet and delicious.If you are not sure about smoked sardines, you can try them.

Next time you make a salad, swap out the meat for the fish.Adding some sun-dried tomatoes and a dash of mayonnaise will compliment the fish.I have a salad with roasted red peppers and sardines.

A popular sardine salad I grew up with was called Mimosa, where sardines are sandwiched between boiled potatoes, boiled eggs, cooked carrots, and mayonnaise dressing.Do not knock it until you try it.

The new egg is breakfast sardines.I like the idea of avocab toast with a sprinkle of sea salt and some spring onion.

There is a smoked salmon bagel with sardines on it.It's nice to top sardines with onions.You can add roasted tomatoes, boiled eggs, gherkins, olives and so on.
