The Knight Rider adventure franchise has two fictional characters called KITT.While having the same acronym, the KITTs are two different entities, one of which appeared in the original TV series Knight Rider.In both instances, KITT is an artificially intelligent electronic computer module in the body of a highly advanced, very mobile, robotic automobile.

There is some continuity from the original series in the 2008 pilot movie and new series.The "second" KITT is a different vehicle and unit.There is a scene in the pilot movie where the garage of Charles Graiman, creator of the Knight Industries Three Thousand, is searched by enemies.A Trans-Am body with no hood is partially covered by a tarp.There are numerous black muscle car body parts, along with the famous KITT steering wheel and "KNIGHT" license plate.There are three cars in the garage when the camera shows a full scene.

The first KITT was seen in pieces in the movie Knight Rider 2000 and Michael Knight was able to revive the Knight 2000 unit in his car.The new vehicle was a modification of the Dodge Stealth.There is no mention of the Knight 4000 in the new series or the pilot movie.Most of the Knight 2000 parts were sold off.In the pilot, Graiman's garage has more parts than the boxes recovered by Michael Knight in Knight Rider 2000.The current location of the original KITT in the new series adds to the mystery.

In the 1997–1998 spin-off series Team Knight Rider, KITT is employed as a shadow advisor."The Shadow" is actually a hologram run by KITT.In "Knight of the Living Dead", Graiman states a third KITT exists as a backup.The third KITT can use his memories when he dies.The third artificial intelligence is not used in the end.

KITT has a front-mounted bar that allows it to see and is a nod to the Cylons.The villains from the TV series were created by Glen A. Larson, who also created Knight Rider.[4]

An unknown number of these systems were designed at the university.In 1982, KITT's total production cost was estimated at over seven million dollars.Subsequent equipment improvements and the installation of additional features have not been taken into account.

There are various toy versions of KITT.The Knight Rider lunch box, the remote controlled KITT, and the deluxe version of KITt are some of the best-knownKnight Rider items.The "Knight 2000 Voice Car", a model of KITT, was a detailed interior and a Michael Knight action figure.There are three different sizes of die-cast toys of KITT.The toys had red reflective holograms on the nose.In late 2004, 1/18 scale die-cast models of KITT and KARR were produced from ERTL complete with detailed interior and light up moving scanner just like in the series.The Knight Rider KITT remote control car in 1/15 scale was released in September of 2006 by Hitari, a UK based company.The talking electronic 1/15 scale KITT was released in December of 2012 and features a light up dashboard, scanner, foglights and tail lights along with the original voice of KITt, William Daniels, all at a push of a button.[16]

The Knight RiderGPS was a serious venture.The item was a fully working gps with the voice of William Daniels.If the unit was one of the ones in the recorded set of names, it could speak to its owner using their own name.[17]

There is a new acronym for Knight Industries Three Thousand in the 2008 update to Knight Rider.The original Two Thousand unit is different from the KITT platform in several ways.The 2008 KITT uses technology that allows the car's outer shell to change colors and become similar forms.The original car's gadgets and "molecular bonded shell" allowed it to endure extreme impacts, but the nanotech platform needs the artificial intelligence active in order to produce any of these effects.When villains are able to cause significant damage, such as shooting out windows, these extreme down-sides have been demonstrated.There are two different types of Ford F-150 4x4 truck, one completely stock and the other with some modifications, as well as a Ford E-150 van and a special edition Warriors In Pink mustang.The "Attack Mode" features scissor/conventional hybrid doors that allow the car to increase speed and use most of its gadgets.Whenever the car needed to increase speed, it had a different looking attack mode in the pilot.It only seats two, that's its downside.While underwater, KITT is capable of functioning submerged, maintaining life support and system integrity.

The original series stated that the original KITT was designed by Wilton Knight, but the 2008 TV movie suggests that Charles Graiman may have co-designed the car with him, and that he was relocated to protect him and his family.KITT's weapons include a grappling hook located in the front bumper, which can be used in normal and attack modes, and a missile launchers which was first utilized in "Knight of the Hunter".In the Halloween episode "Knight of the Living Dead", KITT becomes a black mustang convertible with a pink trim as a Halloween costume.The bar was moved behind the grille.The backup neural network exists when Dr. Graiman suggests that KITT's files be downloaded and re uploaded to the backup, to which he replies "The backup is not me."KITT changed his color and licence plate in the pilot.In "Knight of the Zodiac", KITT uses a glovebox and a dispenser located in his undergarment to spread black ice and put fingerprints of a captured thief over Mike's.
