What is a good ISEE or SSAT Score?
Other High School is an early success school.
The Independent School Entrance Exam is a standardized test for students in grades 2 through 12 to apply to many private schools. Most of the information in ISEE score reports is not very intuitive. What do the scores mean?Which ones are important to the school? What is a good ISEE score? Here are the answers to all the questions.
The essay section is not scored by the ISEE.It is forwarded to the schools the student applied to so that they can review it.Students will get scores for each section of the test in the score report. Most students receive their ISEE test scores between seven to ten business days after they complete the test, and they are automatically sent to the schools you have selected.
Students will receive a scaled score for each section. How are the scores calculated? For raw scoring, each correct answer on the ISEE is worth one point, and no points are gained or lost for skipping a question or answering it wrong. The sum of correctly-answered questions is the raw score.
The score is scaled.Different test dates have different difficulty levels. If an ISEE exam in December is more difficult than one in October, the students will not be punished for taking the harder test because the scaling will even out the differences in difficulty. The scaled scores are between 760 and 940.
Each of your section scores will get you a percentile rank.Percentile ranking is determined by how your scaled ISEE scores compare to the scores of other students in the same grade who have taken the test over the past three years. The percentile ranking is a good indicator of how well you did on the test.If you received a percentile score of 58, you scored as well as or higher than 58 percent of the other students in the group.
Stanine scores are based on percentile rankings and there are nine groups. The better a student does on the ISEE, the higher their stanine score is.It makes it easy for parents and schools to see a student's ISEE scores compared to other test-takers' scores. Most students score between 4 and 6 in the middle range.
The percentile ranking and stanine scores are calculated so that the average score on the ISEE is in line with each of the rankings. The average ISEE test-taker has a percentile ranking of 50 percent and a stanine score of 5.Lower scores are below average, while scores higher than average are above average.
Half of the students who take the ISEE receive a middle score of 3-6.It is rare to get a score on either side of the spectrum.Only 23% of students get a score of 1-2, and another 23% get scores of 7-9.Only 4% of students receive a stanine score of 9.
ISEE scores are only one component of a student's application, and they are rarely the most important piece.Schools look at an applicants school grades, extracurricular activities, teacher recommendations, and essays. If the rest of the application is weak, even outstanding ISEE scores won't be enough to get a student admitted into a competitive school.
Many students score lower on the ISEE than their parents might think, which is an important factor to be aware of.There are two reasons for this. The ISEE is one of the most difficult tests the student has taken, and some information will be beyond their current knowledge. The average student body tends to be weaker than the cohort that takes the ISEE, so that skews the averages. It is not uncommon for a student to get close to a 50th percentile score on the ISEE if they score well on statewide exams. The average score on the ISEE doesn't mean the test-taker is an average student.
What is a good score on the ISEE and how does this affect how schools look at it?The stanine scores are what the data schools are most interested in.The scaled scores are not particularly useful information, and the percentile scores can be too specific and cause admissions teams to split hairs.).
Stanine scores separate students into nine groups, which makes it easy for them to be compared to other test-takers as well as average ISEE scores.
A good ISEE score will get a student accepted into a private school. It depends on the school. Many schools see ISEE test scores of 4 or higher as acceptable. Some schools prefer scores of 7 or higher. In general, a score of 3 or lower will be seen as a weak area of a student's application, and a Score of 7 or higher is a strong score for nearly all schools, some elite institutions prefer scores of 8 or 9 but will accept students who score lower than
The other parts of the student's application must be strong in order for them to be admitted, but ISEE scores of 5 or higher are enough for most schools.
What is a good ISEE score? Many private schools require applicants to take the ISEE.Scales, percentile rank, and stanine scores are some of the different types of ISEE test scores that students receive.
The Stanine scores range from 1 to 9 and are the most important. What is a good score on the ISEE?Some elite private schools want applicants to have ISEE test results of 7 or higher in order to get into their school.
