That being said, for basic calculus, Stewart's textbook is great. The exposition is very clear, and is accompanied by plenty of diagrams and examples, many of which draw from concepts in physics.

Stewart's is fine, but it's so long that I feel it's probably difficult to self-study. One would feel obliged to do much more than he/she needs, I feel. I could be wrong though, so you might want to check out Stewart's (it's easy to find online as a pdf).
