What does the futures market tell us?
An indicator that tracks the markets 24 hours a day is needed. This is where the futures markets come in. The index futures are a derivative of the actual indexes. Futures look into the future to "lock in" a future price or try to predict where something will be in the future; hence the name.

Where can I track futures?
Tracking the NASDAQ 100 index and futures is a simple matter of accessing readily available market quotes. Visit a financial site such as Yahoo! Finance or CNBC, which provide "streaming" quotes that track important indexes such as the Dow Jones Industrials, the Standard & Poor's 500 and the NASDAQ 100.

Can you use futures to predict the market?
Futures look into the future to "lock in" a future price or try to predict where something will be in the future; hence the name. Do stock futures predict the market?
Stock futures aren't a prediction as much as a bet. A stock futures contract is a commitment to buy or sell stock at a certain price at some future time, regardless of what it's actually worth at that moment. The prices offered for futures contracts are based on where investors see the market heading.
Do futures follow the market?
Unlike the stock market, futures markets rarely close. Futures contracts trade based on the values of the stock market benchmark indexes they represent. S&P 500 futures trade based on the value of the Standard & Poor's 500, just as Dow futures trade based on the value of the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
