Why is there a magnet in the bottom of my transmission pan?
To keep clean oil without ferrous metal particles they will put a magnet in to pick up any ferrous debris. Syncros are made of brass so you are out of luck there but mostly everything else will be picked up.
Should you put a magnet on your oil pan?
Registered. A magnet is not a bad idea but it does not need to be super strong. Engines can flake off things that would then get stuck in the oil pickup tube screen. In the past when we had steel blocks, heads the magnet could catch this stuff.Mar 17, 2006
What is a transmission pan?
What is a Transmission Pan? The transmission pan and gasket keeps automatic transmission fluid in the transmission, where it belongs, and off the ground. Repairing a transmission pan leak is often as easy as replacing the pan gasket, assuming the pan itself remains free of damage.

What causes metal shavings in your transmission?
What Causes Metal Shavings in Transmission Fluid? Your transmission needs as much maintenance and preventive care as the rest of your engine. If you forget to replace the transmission fluid or don't do it often enough, the gears will begin to grind together and shave fragments from each other.Jan 17, 2020

What would dark particles found in the automatic transmission indicate?
Black pieces: Black pieces indicate worn clutch or band friction material. It is normal to find fine particles, especially around the magnet. Its job is to attract metal particles circulating in the transmission fluid.
