There is a question and answer site for people who build, repair, or commute on bicycles. It only takes a short time to sign up.

The measurement is for the diameter of the pedal spindles. You need to know if your pedals are 9/16" or 1/2.If there is no measurement indication on your existing pedals or the paperwork which came with your bike, ask your LBS if they could test out some of your pedals to find out what size you need.

The 9/16" pedals are for 2 or 3 piece cranks. You probably need 9/16th.

I had the same question.I know the basics of a bike, but when I ask for the number of cranks, the answer is not clear. Is it possible to ask to the bike shop?I took my bike pedal and measured: 12.7, which is the standard for 9/16 inches and 1/2 inches. It must be 1/2 inch.It was solved.
