Salvation Army A growing number of the Salvation Army's charity shops are able to test electrical items safely and so take them for resale. Call ahead to Salvation Army Trading to check if your nearest branch will accept electricals.
Do Age Concern take electrical goods?
We conduct full electrical checks, and everything is thoroughly cleaned and made good for sale. Donate what you no longer need. Whether furniture, clothing, bric-a-brac, books, CDs, DVDs or electrical goods, you'll know what you're donating is producing much needed income to support older people in our community.
How can I get rid of electronics for free?
Plenty of nonprofit organizations and local communities offer options to help you recycle old electronics. One group, Call2Recycle, offers drop-off locations for rechargeable batteries and cell phones all over the U.S. To find a location, just enter your ZIP code at Call2Recycle.org.
Can I dispose of a sofa at the tip?
Tip: Garbage companies will sometimes charge you to throw away full couches in public dumpsters. If you break your couch down to small pieces of wood and fabric, they can't charge you anything because it's just regular trash at that point.
Do you have to pay to dump a sofa?
Nope, not for free. Many, if not most will take it away, but they will typically require a couch disposal fee. But even charities require clean, spotless couches. Odds are if your couch has a number of years of wear and tear, its condition might not be that great.
