Merrifield is an American professional baseball second baseman and outfielder for the Kansas City Royals of Major League Baseball.
Merrifield played baseball for the University of South Carolina from 2008 to 2010 after graduating from a high school in North Carolina.He played in the Cape Cod Baseball League in 2008 and 2009, playing for the Chatham Anglers.Merrifield hit a game-winning single in the bottom of the 11th to give South Carolina the 2010 College World Series title.He played in 195 games at South Carolina and hit 27 home runs.
The Kansas City Royals drafted Merrifield in the ninth round of the 2010 Major League Baseball draft.He made his professional debut that season with the Burlington Bees.In 47 games he hit.252/.317/ 409 with five home runs and 26 runs.Merrifield played for the Blue Rocks in 2011.He had a.258 batting average and nine home runs with the Northwest Arkansas Naturals.He had a.270 batting average with three home runs and 43 runs scored in 94 games for Northwest Arkansas.[7]
