Why are bees considered good luck in folklore?

The world watched in horror as one of the most famous cathedrals burned.There was a tiny miracle amid the billowing smoke and crackling flames.The 180,000 bees who live on the roof of Notre Dame decided to take a nap, no doubt inspired by the carbon dioxide in the smoke.Survived the fire.

It shows what little insects they are.They are essential to life on earth.They pollinate plants.They are excellent for promoting the environment.

The ancient Greek, Roman and Celtic societies believed bees acted as messengers between the world and the next.bees were seen as being incredibly wise by the Celts.In Scotland's western isles, bees were thought to embody the ancient knowledge of the druids.

The Irish goddess, Brigid, had a special place in her heart for bees.She had an apple orchard in the Otherworld, and her bees brought her the fruit.The rivers of the Otherworld ran with honey from the insects.

The sun god Ra was believed to have caused honeybees to come from his tears.They thought bees were delivering messages.

The Romans believed Jupiter gave the bee a sting to defend it's honey.The bees were told to repay Jupiter in some way.That is the reason bees die when they sting you.

bees were thought to be the souls of priestesses in ancient Greece.The Holy Ghost was claimed to be symbolised by the bee.St. Valentine was the patron saint of commercial greetings cards and heart-shaped tat.

If a bee landed on a baby's lips, the Greeks would become a mighty speaker.It is not surprising that Norse mythology has a similar form of poetry.The honey drink would bring poetic inspiration.

The honey bee's origin myth is explained in The Lore of the Honey-Bee.The god Jupiter was hidden on the island of Crete because he was eaten at birth.The King's daughters were left with Jupiter.

They hid Jupiter in a cave.The honey was given to the baby god.In other versions of the story, the nurses made noises to hide Jupiter.The bees went to the cave after hearing the noise.Jupiter gave them a special gift to help with the propagation of the species.

The birth of Jesus is said to be celebrated by bees at midnight on Christmas Eve.You could only move a hive on Good Friday in Cornwall.

A Cornish saying said that if you threw a handkerchief over a bee swarm, you could get a lot of good luck.

They do not like being bought or sold.Purchase them with the first piece of honeycomb you get from the hive.You can barter with other items.

Money is on the way if a bee lands on your hand.Success will be yours if one lands on your head.A good way to attract wealth is by wearing honey bee charms.The associations are easy to see because of how productive bees are.

Do you want to know if your husband cheated on you?He should be led past a bee hive.If he has been unfaithful, he will only be stung.

A visitor will arrive when bees fly into your house.The visitor only has bad news if the bee is killed.That is bad news for the bee.Leave the window open and the bee will get out on its own.It will take good luck if you force it.

The bees became part of the family.When there were births, weddings, moves, or deaths, a family member would go and tell the bees what had happened.The bees might leave the hive or stop producing honey if they didn't get their way.

The departure of bees from the hive was a sign of death and people were keen to keep them happy.

It was important to speak in a calm voice.You should never swear at bees.They might take offense and leave.

Before the funeral took place in Wales, a family member had to tell the bees about the death.They put a black ribbon on the hive to keep Death from coming back.

The bees were left with their share of food from the funeral after the family decorated the hive with black cloth.

Women would tell the bees when they were getting married.They would leave a piece of their wedding cake for the bees.

The person who saw the swarms on the dead tree branch would be the one who would die.

Good luck can come from a bee flying into your house.If it dies there, it will bring bad luck.Killing a bee is very unlucky.

You can get some manuka honey if you have a sore throat.In lemon and ginger tea, add a small amount of water.Continue this until the sore throat eases.

The healing power of honey is well documented.heather honey, whiskey and cream were used to cure diseases in Scotland.

In ancient Egypt, honey was used as a gift for the dead.The bodies were preserved in honey.

It is possible to overcome a painful event in your past if you dream about a bee sting.It's a sign of good fortune, wealth, and hard work if you dream about bees without being stung.

I think bees are my favourite thing to feature on this website.Their folklore reflects their value.

The value of their honey helps explain why they represent good luck in folklore.They are a vital part of the community, whether they are wise, messengers for the gods, or bringers of good fortune.
