Will you be allowed to have two cable modems in one house?
Michael B asked if he would be moving in next week after renting a room in a private home.I have a question about my options.
The landlord won't let me use his wi-fi connection in the room I'm moving into because it's wired for cable. He said I would have to sign up for an account with the company and get a cable modem.
Is it possible to have two cable modems in the same house?I was under the impression that you can not.
Rick said it is possible to have multiple cable modems in the same house.
To sign up for an Internet-Only account, you need to call the company and tell them you want to do so.Explain to them that your landlord won't allow you to use his internet connection because the house is already served by an active cable subscription.
If you want to simplify the process, you can purchase a modem of your own and avoid having a tech visit your house.
Just connect the modem to the cable modem and you're good to go.
If you decide to purchase your own modem, use the handy tool on this page to choose a model that will work with your service.
It would be a good idea to write down the modem's MAC ID on a piece of paper so you can refer to it when you call.
Depending on the model you end up with, the MAC ID can be found on either the bottom, side or back of the modem.
