Maybe you just want to find out how muchCaffeine you are drinking right now.
We want to let you know that not all of the features have been released yet.
There are three main sections to the calculator: tea type, size of tea serving, and amount of caffeine in tea.
You can select the type of tea you want from the drop down menu in the first section.
You can choose which tea you want to see how much caffeine is in.
Taiwan's Tea Research and Extension Station has good data on their caffeine content, so we started with this group of teas.
You can choose from an 8, 12, 16, or 20 ounce serving. It depends on the size of the cup.
We will show you the amount of caffeine in your tea based on your choice of tea and serving size. That is it!
Taiwan's Tea Research and Extension Station pulls the data. The data is in Chinese, but we have translated it to English.
We can give you the exact amount of caffeine in your tea by using their data.
The teas in the calculator are based on ratios of 1:45 of boiling water to tea leaves and are steeped for 6 minutes.Cold brew was made for 4 hours.
Below the calculation section, we have added a colored depiction of the caffeine in each selection.
This provides the same information as above, but in a visual way, so that you can see the difference between light green and red for a small amount of caffeine and large cups of black tea.
This section displays the amount of caffeine in context, from lowest to highest.
It's our favorite part of the calculator because you can easily see the amount of caffeine on a scale from low to high.
The calculator uses a ratio of 3 grams of tea to calculate the caffeine values.
If you steep more or less tea, steep for a different amount of time, or have different temperature water, your caffeine mileage will vary.
Growing conditions, processing methods, and precise cultivar will all affect the amount of caffeine in your final cup of tea.
We know this is a small selection of the types of teas out there in the world, and you are probably curious about the caffeine in many of them.
The next version will have more tea and fun features. We wish we were able to release everything at once, but this development is a bit tricky, and of course we have tea to source!
The ability to select a steep number will be one of the features we want to release over the next few months.
We will be adding more and more tea to the calculator once the steep number feature is released.
This is a work in progress and features are already being worked on for a future release.

Great suggestion, Peter. It would be great to have the ability to select the amount of tea and water.
The ratio of tea leaves to water is what this is based on, so it would be 3 grams of leaves for 150 liters of water, or 6 grams for 300 liters. The calculator will give you an accurate picture of the ratio for each size.We want to make sure that steep time doesn't affect the amount of tea you brew for the same time. Thanks again and more coming soon...!
Thanks for the suggestion, we added a ml to oz conversion table to the calculator page. You can see it below the calculator. The next release will allow you to select your preferred measurement system.Hope this helps!
Thanks for writing, and not to worry!Black tea has a good amount of caffeine, but if you don't steep it for six minutes with 1:50 tea to water, you will not get that amount.Adding all the health benefits of black tea is what we think you are doing well with Darjeeling.
The calculator might be able to calculate based on how much tea is used.It is a bit confusing, but I have heard tea has a range of 1 to 5% caffeine by weight.Even if you steep the heck out of it, taking less than 1% of 3 grams of tea will give you no more than 30-150mg of caffeine.Unless you double the amount of tea used, doubling from 8 to 16 ounces won't double caffeine.
Let us use liters instead of ounces. We are all sane people here and nobody uses this stupid imperial system outside of the US.
It was very bad!I usually drink Darjeelings instead of Taiwanese hongcha, but it looks like my morning cup of black tea has more caffeine than a similarly sized cup.It takes six minutes to steep tea. Thanks for the tool!
The combination of the late winter growing season and the processing methods has resulted in a mild character of tea.It has a clean, dry finish with notes of winter vegetables, such as parsnips and Delicata squash. It has a soft, balanced, yet substantial flavor profile that can be described as humble. It is not a fragrant or bold tea.It has substance, along with the essentials of being a traditionally made Oolong from Lugu, Taiwan.
