Without your parents' trust, you might find yourself spending a lot of Saturday nights in the house while your friends are out having fun.Maybe your parents are strict and you have been dishonest in the past. They will see you as mature if you build trust. You can earn your parents trust by obeying their rules and communicating honestly.
Step 1: Tell the truth.
Being dishonest with your parents will make them less trusting of you.fess up if you have done something wrong. If your parents trust you, they will be notified as soon as you make a mistake or need help.If you make a mistake, tell them what you're going to do to fix it.If you want to build trust with your parents, be open with them.If you recently got a speeding ticket, tell your parents. You do not want them to find out in other ways.Say, "I am so sorry, but I got a speeding ticket today."I apologized for how fast I was going. If I have to be punished, I will try to drive below the speed limit.Even if you haven't made a mistake, be honest. It is possible to create trust between you and your parents by opening up about your feelings.
Step 2: Listen to what your parents say.
Remember that your parents have opinions of their own.Tell your parents that you want to hear their advice.Remember that both of you should be heard in conversations if you take what they say into account.Don't get on your phone or daydream when your parents are giving you a long lecture.Apply their advice by focusing on their words. You can practice active listening by reflecting what you're hearing back to them. They know that you're invested.Thank them at the end of the conversation.
Step 3: Tell them what is going on in your life.
Encourage your family to eat together.Keep them updated on what's happening with you.If it's not good news, you don't want a teacher or other adult to approach you with information about you.I did well on my Calculus exam, but I was hoping to do better.I got a B and not an A.
Step 4: Tell them you want them to trust you.
If you have recently broken your parent's trust in you, sit them down and have a talk.Tell them that you want to fix things, even though you are ashamed of what you did.Ask them if there are ways to make up.Obey their rules and stay humble as you work to come up with solutions.I apologize for breaking curfew.Since you extended it, there is no excuse for me being that late.I promise to always be on time when that is done, even though I know I am grounded right now.I want you to be able to trust me.
Step 5: Go beyond their expectations.
If you have broken your parent's trust, instead of skirting the rules, exceed their expectations. Is your curfew at 10?Go home by 9:45.Are you going to cook tonight? Also sweep the floor.Let your parents know that you respect their rules. They are more likely to let you have more freedom in the future if you go above and beyond now. They don't think you're doing extra just to get what you want if you go beyond their expectations.
Step 6: Ask when they call or text.
Pick up or respond immediately when your parents call or text you.Unless you are at work or in class, don't ignore them.Your parents should be able to rely on you to answer their calls. If your parents pay your cell phone bill, be sure to do this.If it is an emergency, be sure to answer in case they need you. They won't call/text in the first place if you pick up and respond immediately. For a similar effect, call or text them.
Step 7: Do what they tell you to do.
You might be asked by your parents to mow the lawn or cook dinner.Do everything they ask with a good attitude.Your parents probably do a lot for you, so the least you can do is smile. If your parents ask you for something that you don't want to do, try to change it.Accept their decision if they disagree with you.
Step 8: Be where you say you will be.
Don't go to your significant other's house if you tell your mom you'll be at the mall.Always tell the truth. They might show up at the mall to surprise you and then you will be caught in a lie.You should always tell them about your location.Even if you don't think it's important, let them know.
Step 9: You should be aware of your social media use.
Social media included, trust is earned from all areas of life.Post things that your family will be proud to see.Don't post a picture in your new bikini if you know your mom will not like it.Set up your account so only your friends can message you if your dad doesn't want you speaking to strangers.Use your accounts with care.
Step 10: Do your chores without being told.
Do your homework before your parents get home so they don't have to remind you.You can start dinner without them having to call or check-in.Your parents will trust you with larger things if you are reliable with small things. You should start developing your own reminder system.Set an alert on your phone, keep a calendar, and use post-it notes for clues. You can find a system that works for you.
Step 11: If you do wrong, apologize.
Say you are sorry to your parents when you break a rule.Your parents will notice if you acknowledge your faults.Don't make excuses and just be honest.Don't force them to come to you for an apology.I apologize for breaking the lamp.Accepting responsibility and holding yourself accountable is a great way to show your parents that you're mature.
Step 12: It's time to make up for your mistakes.
Do all you can to correct your mistake. It will show your parents that you are committed to doing the right thing. If you show your parents how committed you are to doing the right thing, they will view you as dependable. If you forgot to clean your room, you should clean it now.You should go above your parent's expectations.Don't have to tell this behavior to keep it up.
Step 13: Extra tasks can be taken on.
Ask your parent to give you more responsibilities around the house.Every year you should have a new set of expectations. If your parents want to go out on a date, you should babysit younger siblings.Family cars should be washed on Saturdays to give them more time to relax. You don't have to always ask for money if you get a part-time job.
Step 14: For yourself, set high standards.
If you have a good moral compass and do the right thing, your family will trust you more.Ensure that everything you touch prospers.Do well in school if you pay attention in class and study.Do your job to the best of your ability if you come to work on time each day.To show your family that you are mature and able to resolve conflict, keep the peace with others.
Step 15: Spend time with people who are positive.
You can ensure that your parents trust you by choosing your friends wisely.Your parents might worry that you are headed down a bad road if you hang around toxic, negative and mean people.Pick good friends to show them that you are a good judge of character.Allow your parents to meet your friends. They will see that you have nothing to hide.
