Cat owners like to give their pets places to rest.Store-bought cat furniture can be expensive. You can build your own cat furniture at home.A cat bed can be made out of a suitcase, sweater, or cardboard box.
Step 1: There is a box.
Get a big box.You can ask for one at the store. It must be big enough to hold your cat.
Step 2: The flaps need to be removed from the box.
Carefully remove the top flaps from the box with a pair of scissors or a box cutter. You might want to save them for future art projects. The bottom flaps should be left intact.
Step 3: There is an opening in the front.
The U-shaped opening in the front of your box is going to be used as a doorway for your cat.To mark the location you plan to cut, take a pencil.Carefully cut the opening in your box with your scissors or box cutter.
Step 4: The box should be decorated.
You can decorate the outside of your box with construction paper or fabric. This will turn a cardboard box into a cat bed.
Step 5: Line the inside of the box.
The final step is to make a soft area inside the box for your cat to rest in.This could be a folded up towel, quilt backing, stuffing, or a pillow.Your cat bed is ready to use when you place your soft materials in the bottom of your box.
Step 6: The materials should be gathered.
You will need an old suitcase with hard sides, four wooden legs, strong glue, some art supplies, and a small pillow.
Step 7: Attach the legs
The bottom of your suitcase should be facing up.Put some glue on the bottom of each wooden leg and affix them to the suitcase.Allow the glue to dry after placing books or other heavy items on top of the legs. You can drill into the wooden legs of your suitcase. If you are proficient with power tools and your wooden legs come with screw holes, this is a good choice.
Step 8: Put the pillow inside.
If you have found a pillow that is roughly the same size as your suitcase, please let me know.If you want to make your own, you can look at thrift stores or home goods stores.Place your pillow inside the suitcase.Your cat may choke on long strings of pillows.
Step 9: You can make decorations.
Some cute decorations can be found in the inside lid of your suitcase. You can cut pictures out of a magazine or draw pictures on construction paper.
Step 10: The lid needs to be decorated.
You can arrange the decorations on the inside of your lid.Use craft glue to stick your decorations down when you have figured out the best configuration. The cat bed is ready to use.
Step 11: There are materials to gather.
You will need a heavy-duty needle, yarn, stuffing, and an old sweater. You can find all of these materials at a craft store, except for the sweater.A good choice of material for the sweater is 100% wool, for warmth and comfort, but any material will do.It is not required if you have a sewing machine.
Step 12: Attach the neckline of your sweater.
Turn your sweater inside out.You should sew along the neckline. This closes the top of the sweater so that you can stuff it later. It's time to turn your sweater out the right way.
Step 13: Take a line from one side of the body to the other.
Take a picture of a line that moves from one sweater to another. You will use either a sewing machine or a heavy-duty needle to sew the sides of your sweater together. You are creating a tube that runs from one wrist- opening to the other.
Step 14: Stuffing is what you should fill your tube with.
Take your stuffing and put it in one wrist of the sweater after you have sewn the line. You should add stuffing through the wrist- opening until you have a soft tube that runs from wrist to wrist.Touch the wrists together to form a circle. The edge of your cat bed will be formed by this.
Step 15: The sleeves should be sewed together.
The soft, plush edge of your cat bed will be formed by the tube of stuffing you have created. You need to sew the sleeves together to form a loop.Take one sleeve and put it inside the other.Use your heavy-duty needle and yarn to sew around the circle.
Step 16: Attach the bottom to something.
The bottom of your cat bed is where your sweater will form. The body fabric should be on the bottom of the plush loop.Excess fabric is fabric that extends out farther than your plush loop.Remove the excess fabric with scissors.Attach the bottom to the loop with a heavy-duty needle and yarn.
