A paper-folding bookmark is a creative way to mark your spot in a book, and it can be made by anyone.A basic corner bookmark only requires a few simple folds. If you are a little more advanced, you can fold a heart bookmark to show off your skills.Get started by grabbing a square piece of paper.
Step 1: If you place a piece of paper in front of you, it will look like a diamond.
The paper should be set on a flat surface.Instead of having a flat edge at the top, you have a corner like a diamond. You can use any size paper.A good size for a standard bookmark is 15 by 15 inches.
Step 2: The bottom corner should be folded up to meet the top corner.
Bring the bottom corner that is closest to you up onto the top corner.Place the fold firmly. Before you crease the paper, make sure the corners are lined up.
Step 3: To make a small diamond, fold the sides up to the top and unfold them.
The tip should align with the top of the triangle if the left corner is folded up.The edges should line up in the center of the triangle if you repeat on the right side.If you want the triangle to lie flat, unfold the folds. To lie flush against each other, try to align the edges.Don't leave a gap between them in the middle.
Step 4: The bottom edge of the top corner should be folded down.
The tip should line up with the bottom edge of the triangle if the top corner is brought down.To crease it in place, run your finger along the fold.If you are having trouble making a straight fold, place a ruler under the paper to guide you and prevent crooked folds.
Step 5: Under the folded-down flap, Tuck the left and right corners.
Pull the left and right corners up so you can fold them onto the top corner. The final diamond shape can be created by folding the top of each corner into a pocket.Refold the corners if they aren't folding up easily. You can use your bookmark by sliding the pocket onto the corner of the book page.
Step 6: If you want your bookmark to be more unique, decorate it.
You can add glitter, painted designs, stickers, or gems to your bookmark. You can glue on paper ears or teeth and turn your bookmark into a funny monster. If you use glitter or glue-on paper, brush a thin layer of decoupage medium over it and let it dry completely before using. The decorations will not come off.It will affect how the bookmark sits in your book if you add anything that is too bulky to the middle.Attach pom poms to the outside edges instead of using them on the inside.
Step 7: If you want to fold the paper vertically, unfold it first.
You can use a piece of paper in any size.Make a crease by aligning the bottom edge with the top edge.Align the left and right edges of the paper. Before opening the paper, make sure the fold is straight. The 2 folds intersect in the middle of the paper.
Step 8: The bottom edge should be folded up to the middle crease.
The center crease should be aligned with the bottom edge of the paper.Place your finger on the fold to crease it and then flip the paper over.Take your time and line up the edge with the middle crease in mind. The project can be ruined by sloppy folds.
Step 9: The middle vertical crease is where the bottom corners should be.
The crease in the center of the paper can be seen if the left and right corners are folded up.Hold them in place by contorting them.If you leave a space between them, don't overlap the edges in the middle. They should rest against each other.
Step 10: Turn the paper over after folding the bottom corner up to the top edge.
The paper should be turned over on the other side.Bring the corner at the bottom up so that it meets the flat edge on the top.flip the paper back over after folding it.The tip should not go past the top edge of the paper.
Step 11: You can flatten the left and right flaps by opening them.
There are 2 flaps in the center of the paper.Place your index finger inside one flap and press down to flatten it into a triangle shape.Go back and forth with the other flap. The crease in the center of the flattened triangle should line up with the bottom edge of a piece of paper.
Step 12: The flaps should be folded up to meet the bottom edge.
The small squares at the bottom of the paper were created when you flattened the flaps. To make small triangles with the tips pointing down, fold the corners up to the bottom edge of the paper. The outer right corner should be folded up on the right flattened flap. The left corner should be folded up and in.
Step 13: The 2 triangles should be folded up by 4 inch (0.64 cm).
Take the 2 small triangles that are pointing away from the paper to figure out what the top curves of the heart will be.If you want them to stay in place, crease them slightly.Depending on how you want to shape your heart, you can fold the tips up more or less than 4 inch (0.64 cm).One way to make the arches flatter is by folding them up less.
Step 14: Line up the left and right edges with the middle crease.
The crease in the center needs to be aligned with the outer edges of the paper. To crease the 2 folds, press down firmly.During this step, avoid folding in the heart shape by flattening the flaps and folding them into triangles. You can see your finished bookmark by flipping the paper over.Simply slip the page you want to mark underneath the bottom point of the heart.
