It is easy to make a homemade 3D hologram.Thousands of people make holograms at home, work, or school every year.To make a hologram, you'll need some basic supplies and household items, a quiet and dark room, and about 30 minutes to process the image. You will be able to create your own hologram with time.
Step 1: You can buy the required materials from a film store.
Gather all of the required materials so you know you'll be able to make and process the hologram. All of the following materials can be purchased from a specialty film store or online.
Step 2: The subject for your hologram should be shiny.
The subjects that are translucent, plastic, or made of furs or fabrics tend to warp in image form. For the clearest image, use a solid metal or porcelain object that reflects light and is no larger than your film plate. An excellent hologram subject would be a coin.A teddy bear wouldn't.
Step 3: There is a dimly-lit room where you can make your hologram.
In darkness, the contrast between the object and its surroundings will be greater. If you must, cover the windows or other sources of natural light in your developing room.Rooms with creaky floorboards, loud air currents, or sudden noises can affect the hologram's image. It's ideal to have tile, concrete, or carpet flooring in a room. You don't need to turn off the lights until you're ready to illuminate the object.
Step 4: Place your object on a table.
A table that does not creak or wobble is a good choice.Flat concrete or tile floors can be used if you can't find a sturdy table. If you're worried about your object moving on its own, glue it to a platform against the table.
Step 5: Safety goggles and rubber gloves are required.
The chemicals in the kit may be toxic in their pure form. While handling the processing kit, wear safety goggles and rubber gloves to protect your eyes and skin.Gloves and goggles are required for handling the processing chemicals. If you are sensitive to chemical smells, you should wear a dust mask.
Step 6: Make sure you have a red laser pointer.
Attach the laser pointer to the stand with a clothespin. You can place the stand on the sturdy surface from the object you want to capture.Don't point the beam at another person or look directly into the laser pointer's beam.
Step 7: The laser beam should be adjusted until the subject is fully illuminated.
If you want to point the laser at the object, turn it on.The beam should be adjusted until it hits the object directly.
Step 8: The lights need to be turned off in the room.
All natural light can enter the room if the main lights are switched off.You can't read print in a dark room to process a hologram. If you have trouble seeing in the dark, put a small nightlight underneath the table.
Step 9: You can block the laser beam with a book.
The object should be between the laser pointer and the book to block the beam. This will function as a camera shutter and capture the object's image.Choose a solid object if you use an alternative item. The laser beam won't be blocked by transparent or translucent objects.
Step 10: The film plate should be against the object.
Carefully position the film plate against the object after removing it from your supplies. If the film plate isn't thick enough to stand on its own, prop it up with plastic stands on both sides. Before starting the image capturing process, let the film plate settle for about a tenth of a second.Store the film plates in a covered box until you're ready to use them.
Step 11: Lift the object blocker above the table.
The laser light should be blocked from reaching the plate by the book.Hold the book in this position for a short time, waiting for the table to stop vibrating.Slow down to prevent table noises that can warp the hologram's image.
Step 12: The object blocker should be raised out of the way.
Remove the object blocker and the laser beam will hit the film plate. The book should be lowered after 10 seconds to cover the laser beam.
Step 13: The kit has instructions on how to mix the chemicals.
The processing powders should be mixed with the powerful chemicals in transparent bowls.Carefully read the packaging instructions and add the directed amounts of water and solution mixes in separate bowls, stirring with a metal object.Unless directed by the packaging, do not stir solution mixes together. The packaging instructions should be followed carefully.Always wear safety goggles and rubber gloves when handling chemicals. The developer and bleach solution should be included in most kits. They should be mixed separately.
Step 14: For 30 seconds, dip the hologram in the developing solution.
To wiggle the hologram back and forth in the solution, use metal tongs. After 30 seconds, rinse the hologram in a bowl of water.
Step 15: The process should be repeated with the bleach solution.
If you want to get the object in the bleach solution, drag it with the metal tongs. After 20 seconds have passed, rinse the hologram in water. If the instructions don't say so, it's safe to use the same water bowl.
Step 16: The plate needs to be dry against the wall.
Put a paper towel under the hologram plate to catch drips. The plate should be left undisturbed until it is dry to the touch. The plate should take between 2 and 3 hours to dry.
Step 17: The hologram's images need to be inspected.
You can inspect your hologram after the plate dries. You have made a hologram if you are satisfied with the finished image. If you don't like the hologram's image, try a new film plate or contact a professional hologramgrapher. If your first hologram doesn't turn out as you were expecting, do not be discouraged. It takes time and practice to make high-quality holograms.
