The Amulet of Mara and speaking to an eligible non-playable character are required for you to marry someone in the game.The guide applies to both the standard and special editions of the game.
Step 1: You can travel to Riften.
It's in the south-eastern corner.If you open your map, you can quickly travel there.You can pay a horse-drawn carriage outside of Whiterun or one of the other major cities to take you to Riften if you haven't already visited.If you've been to a few of the dungeons in the game, you may already have an Amulet of Mara.It's important to check for it in your inventory.You would get the amulet if you did the "Book of Love" quest.
Step 2: You can walk to the Temple of Mara.
Go left and straight from the entrance.There should be a large temple on the left.
Step 3: Speak to Maramal if you can.
If you arrive late at night, you may have to wait until the following day to see him.The Bee and Bard pub is the most likely place to find him if you can't find the temple.
Step 4: You can choose to know more about the Temple of Mara.
Maramal will talk about Mara's lore.You can skip his dialogue if you click the mouse button or press the button on the console.
Step 5: Would you like to have a wedding at the temple?It is an option.
Maramal will ask if you're familiar with marriage in the game.
Step 6: The "No, not really" option is available.
Maramal will explain how marriage works.
Step 7: There is a "I'll buy an Amulet of Mara" option.
You will need at least 200 gold on you.Maramal will add the amulet to your inventory if you can afford it.
Step 8: The Amulet of Mara needs to be equipped.
You are ready to begin searching for a spouse.
Step 9: Speak with the person you want to marry.
You can find a full list of marriage-eligible NPCs at http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Marriage.Before you can continue, you'll need to carry out a quest for your chosen person.Purchase their services if the person is a hireable follower.The gender doesn't matter.Anyone listed as eligible can be married to you.
Step 10: "Are you interested in me?"It is an option.
The NPC will respond affirmatively.
Step 11: You can choose "I won't lie."I'm.There is an option.
The marriage agreement between you and the NPC will be solidified by this.
Step 12: Return to Riften.
You will be able to travel quickly there.
Step 13: Speak to Maramal.
He will either be in the Bee and Bard pub or the Temple of Mara.
Step 14: You can choose to have a wedding at the temple.
Maramal will let you know that the wedding will take place between the hours of dawn and dusk.
Step 15: Wait outside the temple until the next morning.
You can shorten the waiting period by pressing the "Wait" button and selecting the hours from the current time until around 8:00 AM the following day.If you miss your wedding window, you need to apologize to your spouse and set up a new wedding time with Maramal.
Step 16: Go back to the temple.
This will lead to a third-person scene in which Maramal will marry you.
Step 17: You can choose "I do.""Now and forever."There is an option.
The marriage will be completed if you do so.They will live with you if you have a house.
