It can be good to know that your pregnant guinea pig is going to give birth, but it can also be dangerous.Stress can cause your guinea pig to go into a Toxic shock. If you've never bathed your pig before, this is not the time.Do you need to bathe your mother's guinea pig?The consequences to the mother and her babies could be serious if the guinea pig doesn't like the bath.
Step 1: Pick a brand of hair product.
There are different types of hair products for pets. It's a good idea to make sure the shampoo you use is made for small animals.A small animal specific wash will keep your guinea pig's skin from drying out.Since your guinea pig is pregnant, it's a good idea to use a non-medicated hair product. There are two types of anti-parasitic shampoos.Natural ingredients are used in soaps that are soap-free.Don't use human hair on your pig.She has harsh chemicals on her skin.Don't buy small animal shampoos with essential oils. There are pet products at your local store.Your vet may also sell hair products.
Step 2: Take your other bathing supplies.
You will need a few other items to bathe your pregnant guinea pig, including towels and a soft-bristled brush. If you don't want to bathe your guinea pig in a sink, you will need a small plastic tub.A plastic jug or large plastic cup will be useful for pouring water on your guinea pig during the bath.A non-slip mat will prevent your baby from getting wet.You don't want her to fall in the water. If you have a hairdryer, you could use it to dry off your baby. The noise of the dryer can be a problem for guinea pigs, so you may want to use some towels to dry her off.
Step 3: The bathing area needs to be ready.
Before you bring your baby to the bathing area, you should have everything in place.Put some water in the sink or plastic tub.If you want her to be more comfortable, fill the area with just enough water to make it to her stomach. She should be able to stay out of the water. Before adding water, place the mat in the sink or tub. There are towels near the sink.Unless you plan to dry her off in that location, the brush doesn't need to be near the bathing area.
Step 4: The bathing area has a guinea pig near it.
You will need to be careful with how you handle the baby.A box is the safest way to move her.Place a small cardboard box with one side folded down in her cage so she can easily walk into it.Lift the side that is folded down to get the box out of the cage.Place her in the sink or tub without putting too much pressure on her belly by walking slowly to the bathing area.Allow her to get used to being in the water. She might try to jump out if you keep your hands on her.
Step 5: You should wash your guinea pig.
To get her wet, fill a plastic jug or cup with water and pour it over her.If you have a guinea pig in the sink, you should use the jug or cup since she could be frightened by being held under a running tap. When she is pregnant, you don't want her to experience any stress that could endanger her unborn babies. She shouldn't get any water on her face or ears.Use a circular motion with your fingers to wash your pet. When you wash her belly, be careful. To avoid putting too much pressure on her belly, try to avoid lifting her as you bathe her.Talk to her in a calm voice. She has a back end.She may have trouble grooming herself because of her increased size, which could lead to feces getting stuck in her fur.If you see feces in her fur, try to break them up.It's a good idea to wear gloves.
Step 6: It is a good idea to rinse your pig.
Place your pregnant guinea pig on the dry set of towels that you already placed by the sink or tub after you have washed her.You can refill the sink or tub by pouring out the dirty bathwater.Put her in the sink or tub and give her some water to rinse her off.If you use your fingers again, you can get all of the shampoos out of her fur.It could make your guinea pig's skin itch.
Step 7: Dry off your pet.
Before you move her back to her cage, she should be completely dry from the bath. She can't get chills from being wet.Depending on how long her hair is, this may take some time.
Step 8: Use towels to dry off your pet.
If you want to not put any pressure on her belly, wrap her in a towel and lift her gently. When bathing her, use the same gentle motions to dry her off. When drying her belly, be extra gentle. While you are drying her off, you can sit on the couch and watch TV.There isn't a need to rush the process.Wrap her in a new towel when the first one is damp and then dry her off.You may hear her start to feel better after her bath. After she is dried off, brush her with a softbristled brush. The fur will be removed.Check the area when you are drying her off if you noticed feces in her fur.If the fur is still there, use a pair of scissors to cut it out.
Step 9: It's a good idea to dry your pig off.
If you want to use a hairdryer than you need to be careful with how you use it.The lowest possible heat setting is the first thing to be set.Turn the hairdryer on if you're close to the guinea pig.You can test the temperature of the hairdryer against your skin.If the heat from the dryer is too hot for your skin, then it's too warm for the guinea pig.As you are drying the fur, use your brush to brush it.It's a good idea to brush in the direction of hair growth.Don't use the dryer if your guinea pig becomes uncomfortable with it.You don't want your baby to be stressed out.
