You can make a faux log cabin with some woodworking tools and imagination.Instructions are provided to help you build this project.
Step 1: You should gather materials for your project.
There are some unique methods involved in the project, so be prepared to hunt for them. There is a short list of materials you will need. The frame and other components are built with lumber.
Step 2: To determine the size and shape of your model, make a sketch of the project.
The one in the illustrations is 25 cm wide, 12 cm long, and 30 cm high.
Step 3: To make the walls of your cabin, build a box from 1x6 foot (30 cm x 180 cm) of lumber.
Cedar or white pine are easy to work with and will make fastening the veneer logs easier.
Step 4: The limbs were seen along their lengths.
Remove the bark and thin slab from the side of the limb. The easiest way to do this is with a table saw, but you can also use a circular saw if you want to make sure the limb won't move.
Step 5: Cut enough strips to cover the whole cabin.
Roughly 30 feet of bark slabs were used for the project in the photos.
Step 6: Start at the bottom on either side.
This is to make sure that the 45 degree angles are flush with the ends of the box.
Step 7: Continue until the whole side is covered with slabs.
The slabs can be fastened with staplers, screws, or brads. If the inside of the box is penetrated by the fasteners, they will need to be trimmed or sanded off for safety.
Step 8: Start on the other side of the box.
Match the ends of the logs.To make them fit, you need to choose slabs that are the same width.
Step 9: Continue working on the side until it is completely covered.
Continue around the box until the whole thing is wrapped.
Step 10: Thin strips of the lumber are used to build "rafters".
The angles should be cut so they fit together. You can calculate your roof pitch and use a rafter square to make accurate cuts if you like, or just fit them by trial and error, then use it to mark the number you need for your project.
Step 11: Attach the rafters to thegable ends with a "ridge beam" and measure the distances between them to make sure they are equal.
Step 12: Thin strips of lumber were cut to make "shingles".
Allow the upper to overlap the lower in order to work up the roofline.
Step 13: You can cut the doors and windows at any location you please.
Step 14: Use a sharp knife to trim joints.
Sand these details well.
Step 15: The bark of the logs shouldn't peel when the wood is dried.
It's ready to be used as a pet home, mailbox or a decorative item.
