There are things you can do to make it easier to change in the locker room. The amount of time you might feel embarrassed can be reduced by mastering the quick change. You can keep your privacy by changing in a bathroom stall or behind a curtain. You might start to feel more confident changing in front of others after you've gotten used to it.
Step 1: Wear clothes that are easy to put on.
On the days when you have gym class, make sure you wear clothes that are easy to get in and out of.Stick to shoes that are easy to lace or slip on, and pants and a top that you can take off on a gym day.You will be able to get out of these clothes quickly. For gym days, skirts with elastic bands, comfortable jeans, pullover shirts, and slip-on flats are great choices. On gym days, try to avoid button-down shirts, multi-layer tops, and tight jeans.
Step 2: Make sure everything is easy to get to.
If you want to get changed into your gym clothes quickly, you need to make sure everything is within easy reach. As you take your street clothes off, put your gym clothes in your locker first. If you lay your gym socks, pants, and shirt down, your shirt is on top.Put the gym one on while you take your regular shirt off.Take off your pants and put on your gym clothes.
Step 3: Track your time.
You don't have a lot of time to get changed after the gym.You can set a timer by using your cell phone or wristwatch.
Step 4: Don't go for a big shower.
It's a good idea to keep the water temperature low.Don't wash your hair or your body with soap and water.Until you get home, you should not shave, scrub, or similar things. If you've been in the pool or gym and your hair feels gross, try spraying it with dry cleanser. It should make your hair feel better. You can dry it with a towel.
Step 5: Don't take a shower, use wet wipes.
It can take up a lot of time to take a shower.Don't shower if you're short on time.Bring wet wipes and wipe yourself down after class. It's a good idea to focus on areas that might get stinky when you sweat. You save yourself time and embarrassment by getting clean this way.You can use regular wipes.
Step 6: Don't talk after you're done changing.
If you are in class with a bunch of your friends, you might be tempted to hang out and chat instead of getting changed. While you change, you can still chat, but your focus should be on getting out of your gym clothes and into your regular clothes.
Step 7: If you feel shy, keep to yourself.
Some people in your locker room will talk to each other. It is okay to keep to yourself while you change. You don't need to chat with anyone else, and you can answer anyone's questions while you change. It saves you time. You can say "Hey!" if someone starts talking to you while you're changing. We can talk after I get changed quickly.
Step 8: There is a private area to look for.
There are bathroom stalls in some locker rooms that you can use.You can change your clothes in a bathroom stall if you are not comfortable doing so in front of others. There are more showers in locker rooms that are attached to pools, so you might be able to change there.Sometimes the bathroom stalls might be full of people already. You don't have time to wait for a stall. If that is the case, you can find a quiet corner in the locker room.If students are allowed to change in the restroom, ask.Everyone has to change at their locker.
Step 9: Under your regular clothes, wear your gym clothes.
If you don't have a lot of options for privacy in your locker room, wear your gym clothes under your street clothes. It would be better if you took off your top layer of clothes before class so that you could put them back on when it was over. It's a good idea to wash your gym clothes at least once or twice a week.During the warmer months, this might get a little warm.Extra body spray is a must if you are wearing your gym clothes under your regular clothes. It would be better if you didn't bring the smell of gym class into other classes.
Step 10: Inquire about privacy curtains at your school.
A lot of people are uncomfortable changing in front of others, and if you can get a few people to ask with you, it might convince the administration. If it is possible to get privacy curtains in your locker room, ask your principal. You might have to speak to the school board if the principal can't make that decision. To present your case clearly and calmly, write down the reasons you prefer that type of privacy. If you're a trans student, you should let your school board know. You should mention the religious reasons for needing privacy as well.
Step 11: Don't forget that everyone's bodies look different.
It is easy to feel uncomfortable in the locker room because you are comparing yourself to other people.Everyone's body is different and no one can live up to the ideals you see on TV.No matter how it looks, your body is fine.
Step 12: Your body is not the only one.
You are not the only one changing in the locker room. The other people around you are probably nervous as well.Everyone is so worried about their own bodies that they are not paying attention to yours.
Step 13: Ignore people who tease you.
Ignore the bully if you get teased in the locker room. The people they bully love the reaction they get. They might lose interest if you don't react.Go to a teacher or coach if the teasing continues. They can help you deal with teasing.
Step 14: Your body image can be improved.
Improving your body image is one way to be more confident in the locker room.Think about the things your body can do, like being strong or running fast. You can't change things about your body.If you can change things, set yourself some goals to improve them. You can't change how your knees look or how wide your hips are.How muscular your legs are can be changed.Goals for yourself are related to the things you can change.
Step 15: Slowing down your pace will make you feel more comfortable.
It's okay if you don't feel right in the locker room. You should try to slow down each week.Say hello to people when you feel more comfortable. It might feel weird at first, but eventually you will get used to it.Make sure you keep a record of the time you have to change.
