blastoff! The paper rocket will fly and is based on actual NASA blueprints. You can blast off with a few simple materials and a little ingenuity.
Step 1: You can draw a circle on your paper.
This will be used to form the rocket's nose cone. The nose cone of your paper rocket should be streamlined. The plastic cup should be placed on a clean area of the paper. To make a perfect circle, trace around the bottom. There is a small dot in the center of the circle. The tip of the triangle should end at the circle. It should look like a slice of pie, about the same size as the circle.
Step 2: Cut the circle in half.
Try to keep it as a perfectly round circle by going slow and steady.
Step 3: A cone should be made out of the circle.
The next steps will help you turn your circle into a cone. The triangle piece needs to be cut out.Your circle will look like a cartoon character. To form a cone, fold down the right and left flaps. It will look like a teepee. You can turn it into a cone by holding it on the top and bottom with two hands. To seal the cone, use tape. One piece should be enough to hold the seams in place and keep your cone tight, like a dunce cap or ice cream cone.
Step 4: Attach your cone to your body.
It is time to put the rocket body and nose cone together.Put the cone on one of the rocket ends.If the cone is a little bigger than the body, you should mold it tightly around the cylinder and seal it with tape.Blow into the open end of the cylinder to test the seal.Use more tape to seal the air leak.
Step 5: A 5x5 inch square can be drawn.
This will be your rocket's body. It's best to use regular paper.Go to the left side of the paper and make a dot.Make a mark with 5 inches from the top of the paper.Draw lines to connect the points and make a square.
Step 6: A cylinder can be made out of the square.
You will need a pencil and Scotch tape for this part. The corner of your square should be at the tip of the pencil.Wrap the paper around the pencil. You want to make this as tightly wrapped as possible. To make a small cylinder around the pencil, keep rolling until you use all the paper.Carefully wiggle the pencil out of the cylinder while holding the paper. To make sure the cylinder is even, use the thumb and forefinger of your other hand to push it down.To make sure the cylinder stays rolled, tape around the seams in three different places. You have a body for your rocket.
Step 7: A pair of 2x1 inch triangles are being drawn.
All you have to do is draw a 2 inch vertical with your ruler and connect the opposite ends of the triangle with a diagonal line.
Step 8: The triangles need to be cut out.
You might want to use a smaller pair of scissors.
Step 9: Put one of your triangles on the cylinder body.
If you put wings on your rocket, it will be more aerodynamic and able to cut through the air better. The base of the cylinder is where you want the shortest part of your triangle to be.The hypotenuse of the triangle should look like a fin extending from the body of your rocket.
Step 10: For the second triangle, repeat.
Directly across from your first wing, tape your second wing.
Step 11: The straw should be inserted.
Put your plastic drinking straw into the open end of your rocket.
Step 12: Aim.
Don't point your rocket at anyone or anyone's face.Make a target and aim for it.How to make a target.
Step 13: It's time to blow.
Take a deep breath and exhale quickly through the straw.
