It can be hard to figure out if a guy likes you in middle school. You might get butterflies when you are around him, but does he?If you pay attention to a few physical and verbal signs, you can figure out if he is interested.
Step 1: See if you can catch him staring at you.
When you pass in the halls or see him at lunch, look at the guy.He might be attracted to you if he looks back at you most of the time.If he looks away quickly when you make eye contact, that could be a sign that he likes you, but might be shy about it.
Step 2: Look at him and see if he smiles.
If you see him looking at you, make eye contact and smile. It could be a sign that he is interested if he grins back or makes a funny face.If he laughs or tries to say something back, you can try to mouth something at him.If you are ready to flirt with him, look at him and then away, then smile. When you are around a guy that likes you will be excited, but he might try to hide it.You don't want him to catch you staring, either!
Step 3: Pay attention to how he touches you.
A guy will make physical contact if he likes you.See if he pushes your arm when he makes a joke, plays with your hair, or brushes your shoulder when you walk by.He wants you to know that he wants to get closer.A guy will try to touch you in a friendly way if he likes you.Tell him to stop or get help if he hurts you or makes you feel uncomfortable.
Step 4: He holds his shoulders while sitting.
When you talk to the guy, pay attention to how he places his body.He might be facing you with his whole body if he likes you.He could be leaning in towards you, which is a sign that he wants to get closer. If he tries to get closer to you, look for him to cross his arms or stand with his feet shoulder width apart. It is possible to see if a guy likes you by looking at his body language.
Step 5: He might get jealous when you talk to other guys.
When he sees you talking to another guy, does he tense up or walk away?He might not be focused on his conversation anymore because he is distracted by you.He might try to get your attention back by talking louder or doing things. If you look at his body language, you will be able to tell that he is tense or upset. He might get discouraged and think you are not interested if you rely on this strategy too often. If you don't like him that way, try not to make him jealous by playing with his feelings.
Step 6: If he goes out of his way to talk to you, notice.
Does he walk across the room to say hello?Does he always want to be in your study groups or does he pick you as a partner in class? He could be interested in spending time with you and talking to you.If he doesn't make these efforts with other people, this is a big sign.He probably likes you if he is treating you differently and talking to you more than other people.A shy guy might want to talk to you.He can be seen hovering around your group at lunchtime or even saying hi in the halls.
Step 7: See if he teases you.
He may actually be flirting with you if he pokes fun at you in a light, playful tone.If he is more teasing than sarcastic, pay attention. The jokes and challenges could mean that he likes you.If he says something like, "Why are you so mean to me?" or "You're such a weird person!" you should be able to tell that he just wants your attention. He may try to flirt with you by starting fake fights, like over a pencil or the last sheet of paper. His jokes should always be light-hearted, and you should be able to tell that he is kidding. If it makes you feel bad, ask him to stop or tell an adult.
Step 8: If he asks questions about you, start a conversation.
He will want to know as much about you as he can.Bring up something you've done recently, like a vacation or a project, when you start a conversation with him. This could be a sign that he wants to know more about you.If you say something like, "We just got back from skiing yesterday and I'm so tired", he might ask you questions about where you went, who you were with, or anything else.He might try to act cool by pretending he doesn't care, but he can still subtly get answers by saying something like, "That's cool."The snow is really good this year, right?
Step 9: He may try to show off when he talks to you.
A guy might try to get you interested in him if he likes you.Pay attention to the way he talks about himself and his accomplishments, as well as the things he knows you like.He might say, "Yep, I'm on the soccer team."Wait for you to ask more questions so he can brag a little. He might say something like, "I went to that natural science museum once."The anti-gravity room is only open to people.
Step 10: Listen for the compliment.
A guy might try to show his interest by giving you a compliment.Since they might be more hidden, listen closely for them. They will be used to show that he thinks you are cool and to make you feel good around him.He might say something like, "You're like the star on the swim team, right?" or "I don't usually like art, but your paintings are pretty cool."What a nerd.
Step 11: He might follow you on social media.
It could be a sign that he likes you if he follows you on social media. That is a bigger sign if he likes or comments on your posts. He might say something like, "Take me next time, ok?" if he commented on a picture from your vacation. He might send you funny pictures or videos, which shows that he is thinking of you even when you are not together.
Step 12: Inform your friend that you like him.
If you don't want to ask yourself if he likes you, ask one of your friends to do it for you. They should ask one of his friends if that is too intimidating. You could say, "Josh looks at me all the time!"Do you want them to ask if he likes me?It could be more subtle, like, "Hey, I've heard that you like Danielle, is it true?", or "You like Jordan, right?"Tell me you do!That would be adorable.
Step 13: If you feel close to him, you can have the conversation yourself.
You could ask him if he's interested in you if you feel like you know him well enough. He doesn't feel pressured if you get him at a time when you're alone.Asking him on your own can be scary, but you can also control the conversation and make sure that you don't have any misunderstandings.
Step 14: If it sounds like you, ask what his ideal type is.
Ask him casually what his ideal person to date would be.It could be an indication that he is interested in you, if that person sounds similar to you.He doesn't want to describe his ideal type if he tries to evade the question. He could be shy as well.Try to ask him if he likes you or not.
Step 15: Tell him why you think he likes you, then ask if he does.
If you want to ask a direct question, take a deep breath and look at him.It seems like he might like you because you have been observing the way he acts around you.Ask him if you're right. You could say, "So, I've been noticing lately how you're always hanging out with me and teasing me, and it's more than you do with anyone else."Maybe this sounds crazy or weird, but I really want to know if you like me or not.Go for it and be brave!
Step 16: If he says yes, tell him the truth.
It is your turn to be honest with him if he tells you that he likes you.You should tell him that you feel the same way.Just smile and tell him that you like him as well. You can say something like, "Well, I like you too," or "That's really awesome to hear, because I feel the same way."I think you are great, but I don't feel that way about you.
Step 17: If he says no, keep going.
Even if you didn't like him back, you might feel awkward or bad about yourself if he says no.Try to change the subject after you tell him that you wanted to know.If it is too awkward, make an excuse and leave. You can say, "Oh, OK, I'm not mad or anything."If you feel like you need to leave, say something like, "OK, well, thanks for being"If you like him, it can hurt to know that he doesn't return your feelings.Remember that your feelings will change eventually, and that he could too, so be proud of yourself for having the courage to ask him.
