How To Play Different Cello Bow Techniques

You might want to know the different cello bow techniques if you are new to the cello. You can easily learn how to play the staccato with a little practice.

Step 1: In the pronate position, place the bow in your hand.

You should have your bow length at the bottom of the bow.If you want to pronate your hand, turn it down and out.

Step 2: You should accent your sound.

Part of your sound will need to be changed to do staccato. The bow should be jerked in a fast and short way.The staccato sound comes out nicely if you accent it.

Step 3: This technique can be practiced quite a bit.

Don't make it very long.Do not use a long long bowed technique. You should always have a lot of arm weight when playing staccato.Don't use pressure on your bow.Use the weight of your arm to relax.

Step 4: Start with a less pronated position and hold your bow at the frog of the bow.

Make sure your bow is pointing in the correct direction.A lot of rosin is used for this technique. It's important to use cello bow rosin.

Step 5: Move your hand slowly along the strings by using less arm weight.

Count the time signatures in your head when moving your cello bow.Keep your elbow up.You need to make sure your feet are on the floor.

Step 6: Slowly play the legato notes.

The slower and clearer the bow technique is, the more enjoyable it is for the audience to listen to.Legato is a bow technique that requires a slow pace. The metronome should be set under 85.The last technique is called fast legato.

Step 7: Make it sound good.

You can do it if you don't have pressure on the bow and have a relaxed bow hand. The picture above shows you going near the bridge of your cello and slowly moving the bow. There is a proper cello position.

Step 8: Make sure you have your hand pronated.

The bow should be at the middle tip.Make sure your bow is pointing in the correct direction.A picture of a pronated hand is above.

Step 9: The bow needs to be lifted in the air.

If you let it drop on the string, it will bounce. The 'jeté' sound will be made by this.It should bounce on the middle tip of the bow.Do not apply pressure to the bow.It will be hard to play jeté if you do that.

Step 10: Don't go to the fingerboard too much.

Before using the technique lots, you should practice this many times. The jeté bow technique can be found in the works of Beethoven.Don't be concerned if it takes a long time to master this technique because it is a harder bow technique.

Step 11: Don't pronate your hand too much.

Go to the frog of the bow.It will be difficult to move quickly across the strings if it is too much.Make sure you sit with your cello on the right side.Put your bow on the string.Start by playing the D string. It's the easiest string to sweep. For this method and all the others, make sure that your cello is in tip top shape. The pegs can be used to tune it.There are cello pegs above.

Step 12: Use lots of speed.

Move the bow from the frog to the tip.It will make a noise.Don't use a lot of arm weight because the sound is not meant to be clear. You can use wrist pressure in this technique. If you use too much you will have a choppy sound.

Step 13: Control your bow with straight fingers and pronated handles.

While doing this, make sure your bow doesn't cross the fingerboard. It's a bad technique and happens a lot.If you get into a bad habit of doing it, it will take a long time to fix.
