Are you tired and trying to get your baby to sleep?Wondering how to duplicate the nurse's demonstration in the hospital?A snug swaddle mimics the sensation of being in the womb and can be used to comfort your baby.It may seem like a lot of work, but properly swaddled baby is very easy.
Step 1: Obtain a blanket.
It is important to use a blanket that is at least 24 by 24 inches. You can purchase blankets that are specially made for swimming or make them yourself using a sewing machine, scissors, iron, and fabric. This is the standard size for newborn swaddles. You may need to use a larger blanket as the baby grows.
Step 2: If you want to swim, fold the blanket.
The blanket should be positioned on a flat surface such as the floor or a bed.The corners of the blanket should be pointed up, down, and to the sides, rather than being in the position of a normal square. The blanket should be folded down by about 20 cm.If you keep one hand on your baby, it will be safer. You will fold less of the top corner if the baby is bigger. The top corner will be folded further if the baby is smaller. If you want to make a 2 in ridge, you can fold the folded fabric down one more time.It isn't necessary to offer more neck support. The blanket should look like a diamond or Superman.
Step 3: Put your baby on the blanket.
The baby should be placed in the center of the blanket with the top of his shoulders folded over.
Step 4: The first swaddle should be folded across the baby.
Put the baby's left hand at their hip.The baby's elbow should be bent.Bring the left corner of the blanket to the baby's right side.Once you bring the blanket across to their right side, your baby's right arm should be free. You can tuck the blanket under their back if you roll the baby to their left.
Step 5: The blanket should be folded.
Bring the blanket to the baby by grabbing the bottom corner. The corner will be tucked behind the baby's back. The baby's right arm should be held at their hip with their elbow bent. The bottom corner of the blanket needs to be loosened. You want the baby to be able to kick their legs as they are swaddled. When the baby kicks, they feel a little bit of resistance because you want the blanket taut enough.
Step 6: The swaddle should be folded across the baby.
Place your hand on the baby's chest and hold the blanket in place. You can grab the folded piece of blanket by using your other hand.Bring this part of the blanket to the baby's chest to make a V-neck.Use your thumb to hold the V in place.Pick up the last corner of the blanket and carry it across the baby's shoulder.Again, tuck the remaining blanket under the baby.
Step 7: Tuck in the corner.
Take the corner of the blanket, pull it across the baby's back, and then tuck it into the folds on the right shoulder.
