Silver Lake is a hub of creativity.The Silver Lake Halloween Block Party is at the center of the festivities.It's great for trick-or-treating but also means you'll face a lot of people.You can take things down a notch if you want to avoid major crowds.It's a good place to start.You'll get all the spooky decorations, festive neighbors and candy.There is a park on Sunset Blvd.To avoid a parking nightmare, walk up."Berkeley Circle" is off Silver Lake Blvd. and is another low-key option.

DTLA with its abundance of bars, high rises and modern lofts isn't the most kid-friendly locale for trick-or-treating, but the Annual Halloween Party for Downtown L.A. is.October 31 is a fun day for kids at Grand Hope Park.It runs from 5 to 8 pm and includes bounce houses, puppet shows, face paint, hot dogs, and trick-or-treat-doors.

Halloween is offered in Venice Beach's canal neighborhood.You can collect candy from your neighbors when you stroll the bridges.The parking is difficult and the narrow walkways get crowded, but if you can deal with that, the twinkling lights are magical.

The ranch houses in the flats of Toluca Lake are ideal for candy-hunting.The former home of Bob Hope is a great place to take in the Halloween displays.There is a cul-de-sac at Valley Spring.is a prime trick-or-treating spot.There is a lively scene at the Toluca Lake Estates with industry folks flexing their prop and set design skills to create amazing haunted houses and yards.There were actors dressed as Disney princesses.You can see crazy decorations, scary movies, and neighbors giving out wine at Forman Ave.

What are the best places to go for full-size candy bars?There is a show called The 90210.This tony enclave with big houses and bigger candy hauls can get crazy if you arrive early.The witch's house is on Carmelita Ave.The Spadena House is a great place to start.The storybook structure with its asymmetrical gables, gnarled trees and wooden bridge looks like the home of the cannibalistic witch in "Hansel and Gretel" and was designed by a Hollywood art director in the 1920s.
