A painted mug is an awesome way to liven up a room.They're perfect for a project or gift.You just need a mug, rubbing alcohol, and a paintbrush to start painting.
Step 1: You can put newspapers on your workspace.
Make sure your workspace is covered by the newspaper.If you're worried about the newspaper sliding out of place, tape it down.If you are messy, use 2 or more layers of newspaper.
Step 2: You can put your choice of paint onto the paint palette.
There is a grape-sized amount of each color around the edges of the palette.Keep the colors separate with 2.5 cm between them.If you want to mix colors, pour a little of each color into one divot and mix with a separate brush.If you don't have a paint palette, use a paper plate.Do not pour out too much paint.
Step 3: To draw a design on your mug, use a pencil.
It glides easily on the mug and can be erased.The mug has a pencil design on it.You can use painter's tape to draw straight lines.
Step 4: Let the first coat of paint dry before brushing the mug.
You can dry your brush on a paper towel.You can dip it in the paint color of your choice.You can paint whatever you want with the paintbrush.Don't paint on the mug's lip.To paint larger areas, use a thick foam brush.When painting small designs, use a pointed brush.
Step 5: Continue painting layers until your design is complete.
Wait until the first layer is dry.A top coat of clear acrylic paint is needed for a glossy finish.Take a separate foam brush and glide over the design.
Step 6: You can air-dry the mug for 24 hours.
Store your mug in a safe place by placing it on a piece of newspaper.When the mug is drying, try not to touch it.It can mess up the paint by shortening the drying time.
Step 7: You can clean up your design with rubbing alcohol.
To remove paint smudges, use a Q-Tip soaked in rubbing alcohol.Move slowly so that you don't accidentally remove part of the design you like.
Step 8: For 35 minutes you should bake your mug.
The mug should be on the baking sheet.Put the sheet in the oven when the temperature is 350 F.Set the mug to cool completely after 35 minutes.Take a look at your paint labels.Follow the specific baking instructions on the label.Don't burn yourself!
Step 9: You should hand wash your mug.
The paint design can be messed up by the dishwasher.You can rinse your mug with dish soap and water.Your mug is ready to be used once you have cleaned it.
Step 10: Write a design on your mug.
It is not necessary for paint pens to follow this step.You can erase a mistake if you make one.Don't draw your design on the mug's lip.To make straight lines, use painter's tape.
Step 11: The mug has a first layer.
To decorate the mug, use an oil-based paint marker.You can change the design you made with pencil.Don't use a sharpie as a replacement paint pen because it will wear off quickly.
Step 12: There are more layers of paint in this picture.
Allow the first layer of paint to dry before adding.Continue adding layers until you reach the levels you want.Don't mix the colors!
Step 13: Rub the alcohol soaked Q-Tip to erase mistakes.
There are leftover pencil markings.Wait until the paint marks are dry to remove them.Rub rubbing alcohol soaked Q-Tip at the paint until it is gone.It is a good idea to dry off the Q-Tip before using it.Be gentle and work slowly.You want to keep a part of the design that you like.
Step 14: For at least 24 hours, air-dry the mug.
To dry the mug, put it on a newspaper.Don't touch the mug while it is drying.It can shorten the drying process and mess with the design.
Step 15: For 25 minutes, bake the mug at 375 F.
Put the mug on the baking sheet.The mug and sheet should be placed in the oven.The mug should be kept in the oven for up to 2 hours after 25 minutes.Remove the mug and set it to cool.Remove the mug from the oven.
Step 16: The mug needs to be washed with soap.
Don't use the dishwasher.Your new design will be ruined if it is too harsh on the mug.Put the mug to use once you clean it.
Step 17: Put water in a Tupperware container.
The container should be left at the top of it's body.You should be able to submerge your mug with the Tupperware.You can use any plastic container, big bowl, or sink if you don't have Tupperware.The nail polish can leave a mark, so use a container you don't care about.
Step 18: Put some nailpolish in the water.
You can use as many colors as you want.If the colors don't spread across the water, add more paint drops.Don't let the paint dry on the water's surface.If you can't pick paint colors, look at a color wheel.It will show you which colors work well together.
Step 19: Slowly swirl the paint with a toothpick
The toothpick can be swirled in a snake, zigzag, or random pattern.Slow down to prevent the paint from clumping.This step helps create an effortless look.
Step 20: For 3 to 4 seconds, dip your mug in the paint.
Lower the mug into the water.Pull it out after 3 to 4 seconds.When removing the mug, keep it straight.
Step 21: For one hour, air-dry the mug.
To dry the mug, place it on a piece of newspaper.Put the mug face down to protect it.Don't touch it while it's drying.
Step 22: You should wash the mug.
Cold or hot water can be used to rinse the mug.Don't use a dishwasher because it can ruin your design.You can gift the mug, use it, or place it around your home after washing it.
