I will help you learn how to fix your peace lily.Unless your plant has been dying for a long time, there is hope.You can have a beautiful plant again if you take care of it.
If you want to get the full benefit, you need to read through the entire post and not pick what you think is wrong with your plant.I touch on a number of important topics so you are bound to pick up some good knowledge.
Chances are you have done this if you are reading this post.When peace lilies go completely dry, they will protest and droop.
Feel your mix.Is it dry?Lift your pot.Does it feel light?
Go ahead and give your plant a thorough watering.Bring your plant to the sink or bathtub.Continue to soak your plant until the potting mix has accepted water again, if you notice that water is going straight through very quickly.
When your soil or mix gets too dry, it takes a little bit of work to get it back up, but it is important that you do this otherwise you will keep repeating the cycle.
Your plant should recover in a matter of hours after a thorough watering.
Don't use a meter to tell you when to water.Many people have killed their plants because the reading was always on "moist" even though the potting mix had gone completely dry.
After the top inch of soil has dried out, you can use your finger to feel the potting mix.
Is your peace lily still growing?There is a lot of confusion about plant care because of the different conditions that can cause the same issue.You have to observe your own plant.
Make sure you feel the soil with your fingers to confirm that it's still moist, if your peace lily has stayed too wet for too long.
Determine why your mix hasn't dried out.Is your plant wet?Do you mean in the saucer underneath the cachepot or the decorative pot that your plant is sitting in?Lift your plant.Is there any pooled water?If that is the case, discard it.
Maybe your plant is sitting in a dark location, the pot is too big, or both.The rate at which your soil dries out will be slowed by these.
If you address any of the issues mentioned, you can allow the mix to dry out and see if it recovers.It probably has bad root rot if it doesn't, which will take us to the next section.
A lack of oxygen at the root zone can be created by water-logged and wet potting mix.This creates a favorable environment for certain organisms to attack your plant's roots.If you suspect root rot, you know your soil has been wet for a long time, and you have observed your plant is sagging.
Some of the measures can be implemented at this point.It's time to take further action if your plant isn't growing well.
Determine why your mix stayed wet.Is the pot too big for the plant?Did you allow the plant to sit in the water for too long?Take the plant out of the pot and look at the roots.
They may smell if they suffered from root rot.Remove the roots of your plant.If the root system has rotted out, it may need to go in a smaller pot.
The peace lilies are native to tropical forests.They thrive in shady forest floors.Extreme heat or a lot of direct sun is not welcome.Do you know if your plant has been exposed to a lot of sun or hot conditions?It might be hot in an enclosed car while you take your plant home.
It's a solution to avoid extremes in temperature and sun.If you are comfortable with the temperature, your plant will do the same.Mid-day sun which is strongest is the best place to avoid too much heat from vents, enclosed spaces and extended periods in direct sun.A couple hours of direct sun in the morning or afternoon is enough for these plants.
If your plant has been exposed to cold temperatures, burping can occur.The temperatures for peace lilies are between 65F and 85F.Don't expose your plants to temperatures below 55F (13C) if you have a drop in nighttime temperature.If you move your plants outdoors, keep this in mind.
If you live in a cold winter climate, avoid drafty, cold windows.If you can provide adequate protection, you should not transport your plant in cold weather.Make sure to keep an eye on the weather forecast if you are moving plants outdoors.
This is an important topic to discuss.If you have a peace lily that is root bound, it will be more prone to dry out quickly, which can cause it to lose leaves.Are you watering more often than you used to?Is there a lot of roots coming out of the drainage hole?Maybe it's time to repot.
Take your plant out of the pot and look at the root system.It is time for a new pot if it is root bound.Give the root ball a larger pot if you loosen it a bit.
Is your peace lily still growing after repotting?It's important to know how to properly repot.Did you fail to loosen the root ball before placing it in the bigger pot?If that is the case, your plant's roots will have a hard time growing into the new mix.It will be difficult to keep your roots hydrated due to less fresh potting mix surrounding them.
Before you repot, make sure you loosen your root ball.You want more roots to have contact with your mix.
I like to give a plant a nice thorough watering before I repot it.I will take it out of the pot after a few hours.I will first tease the roots at the bottom and then work my way around the perimeter.
I didn't loosen the root ball because I was lazy.I placed the peace lily in a new pot without touching the root ball.The plant was not growing much after a couple years.Not a single new root had grown into the mix when I removed it from the pot.
I loosened the root ball and planted it back in the pot.The plant started to flourish after growth took off.
This is a mistake that many people have made.Are you one of those people who are afraid of large amounts of food?It can make your situation worse.Many people tell me that they use measured amounts of water because they don't want to overwater.
This isn't the way to get water.If you don't properly moisten your soil, the roots in any dry pockets of soil will eventually dry out and your root system's health will decline.Your plant will not be able to support all of the foliage that it used to have if your root system declines.
Always water thoroughly!Keep watering until the water escapes the drainage hole.You're done if you don't remove any excess water.Peace lilies like to be moist at all times.Allow the top inch or so of the mix to dry out and then water if you can.A beautiful plant is a result of consistent care.
This is a small one, but it can also cause a slight droop.The edges of leaves can turn yellow and brown due to low humidity.
There are peace lilies in the tropics.If you run forced air heat in the winter, it is a good idea to increase your humidity.A good humidifier is the best way to increase humidity.If you don't know which is best, I've personally reviewed 3 wonderful humidifiers.
Peace lilies seem to be resistant to pests.Mealy bugs are likely to be encountered if they encounter any pest issues.They are usually white cottony mass on your plant.If the mealy bug population is left unaddressed, it will cause your plant to droop as well as yellow leaves.
It's best to treat mealy bugs before they get out of control.Mealy bugs can be treated with a good insecticidal soap.I like to use Bonide's Insecticidal Soap.
Problems with your plant can be caused by using the wrong mix.Problems with being able to maintain the appropriate soil moisture can be caused by mixes that exhibit poor drainage, are too dense or heavy, or that dry out too quickly.
The solution is to use a light, all-purpose well-draining potting mix.Don't use mixes meant for cacti as they can dry out too quickly.Miracle-Gro or Espoma is an all-purpose mix that I like to use.I use about 3 parts of one of these mixes.

The peace lily has been with me for at least 30 years.I didn't treat it well for a long time.It was in a terracotta pot that I came up with the idea that all plants should be treated to Epsom salts as fertilization.When we all got to stay home from work last May, I was allowed to grow an attentive brain.There were pieces of root in my hand.They were damaged by salt.I would like to post before and after pics.An online order for an oversized mason jar helped.It was a dome.Without rushing water, the roots could heal.I had to water it once with the dome on.A dome, a pot, and aqua globes.Peace lily is a happy camper.When it began healing, it grew aerial roots.That is what they are called.Thanks for the reminders for even keeled watering, I think it wears them out a bit.
